Production Assembly Operative | Brackmills, Northampton | 08:00–17:00 (40 hours) | £13.00–£15.00 per hour
Our client is a specialist manufacturing business operating within the electrical components and cable assembly sector, producing high-quality bespoke cable solutions for a wide range of customers across multiple industries. The business operates from a modern production facility in Brackmills and focuses on precision assembly, quality control, and continuous improvement within a clean and structured manufacturing environment.
Following continued demand for their products, our client is now looking to appoint permanent Production Assembly Operatives to join their production team. This is a hands-on, detail-focused role within a small, collaborative team environment where accuracy, care, and quality are essential.
The Opportunity
This is a practical, workshop-based assembly role involving the production of electrical cables, harnesses, and related components to customer specifications.
Previous cable or electrical assembly experience would be fantastic, but it is not essential. The most important qualities are a good eye for detail, a careful and methodical approach, good manual dexterity, and the ability to follow instructions accurately. Full training will be provided across all key areas of the department.
You may have worked in manufacturing, production, engineering, electronics, mechanical assembly, crafts, or another hands-on environment – or you may simply be someone who enjoys practical, precise work and is keen to learn a new skill.
The role involves a mixture of manual and automated processes, including assembly, inspection, testing, crimping, soldering, and machine operation. As you become more experienced, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills across different areas of the department.
This is a varied role where no two days are necessarily the same, with responsibility spanning assembly, quality checking, testing, stock handling, and supporting wider production processes.

The role reports into the Team Leader and Department Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble cables to plugs and sockets using soldering irons and hand crimping methods
- Operate automated crimping equipment where required
- Assemble cable harnesses into e-chains
- Fit additional components such as brackets, troughs, and related parts
- Follow wiring diagrams, pinouts, assembly instructions, and picking lists
- Accurately pick parts and materials for production orders
- Label finished cables for identification and traceability
- Carry out electrical cable inspection and testing
- Comply with quality control (QC) standards and procedures
- Ensure correct stock handling and accurate location of materials within the stock system
- Support general production efficiency and housekeeping standards
- Work across multiple areas of the department as your skills and experience develop
- Learn and develop new assembly, testing, crimping, soldering, and machine-operation skills
About You
- Previous cable assembly, electrical assembly, manufacturing, production, engineering, or similar hands-on experience would be advantageous, but is not essential
- You may have experience in a completely different industry but enjoy practical, hands-on work
- Good attention to detail and a careful, methodical approach
- Good manual dexterity and the ability to work with small components
- Comfortable following written instructions and learning new processes
- Reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn
- Able to work accurately and consistently in a production environment
- Strong team player with a flexible and proactive attitude
- Comfortable working in a small team with a varied workload
- Keen to develop new skills and undertake ongoing training and development
- Soldering, crimping, cable assembly, or IPC experience would be a bonus, but full training will be provided

What’s on Offer
- £13.00–£15.00 per hour depending on experience
- Full-time hours: 08:00–17:00 (40 hours per week)
- Flexible working hours available, including flexi-time options (e.g. 07:45–16:45)
- Overtime paid at time and a half, with overtime opportunities and occasional early-start shifts available
- 30 days holiday per annum including Bank Holidays, plus a mandatory 3.5-day shutdown over Christmas (holiday year runs January to January)

Additional Information
- Employees receive a total of 1 hour unpaid break per day (15 minutes morning, 30 minutes lunch, 15 minutes afternoon)
- Production targets and KPI expectations are introduced gradually as employees gain experience and become familiar with the role and processes
- Previous cable assembly or electrical manufacturing experience is not essential, as full training will be provided
- IPC certification is not essential for appointment but is highly desirable
