Role Title: Production Design Manager

Location: London

Job Family: Commercial

Salary: £50,000 FTE (£25,000 for 6 months)

Reports to: Head of Business Development

Contract: 6-month contract, 5-days per week.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

This is a brand-new role, created to sit within the Commercial team, focused on helping us win new business by ensuring every bid displays cutting-edge production that is fully costed and considered. It would suit someone with experience across the festival, live event or entertainment space, including immersive events with complex builds and production requirements, and is initially offered as a 6-month contract with the ambition to become a permanent position.

The successful candidate can turn briefs into buildable, costed concepts for bars, concessions and VIP spaces. They'll have an influential seat at the table, leading ideation on the products and services we offer - shaping the types of bars and food concessions we bring to clients and how they're presented on site. The Production Design Manager is detail-focused on design feasibility, finishes and fixings, and skilled at producing technical packs, indicative budgets and timelines that give clients and internal stakeholders confidence at the tender stage.

You plan and control budgets and timelines, keep drawings and version control accurate. You work closely with Operations, Tech, Stock and Commercial Teams on pitches and planning for delivery; you design for re-use and low waste; and you wrap each project with clear handovers, reconciliations and concise debriefs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Budgeting, value engineering & controls

  • Interpret briefs from both clients and Peppermint’s SLT, independently scoping out full delivery requirements - materials, fabrication, plant, access, logistics and print - to produce accurate, defensible costings that underpin every bid.
  • Work closely with the Finance team to translate these costings into realistic budgets that form the P&L for each event or show, ensuring bids are commercially sound as well as creatively strong and feed accurately into wider financial forecasting.
  • Build and manage the production budget, raising POs, tracking commitments and value-engineering without compromising brand/venue standards; reconcile supplier invoices post-event.

Creative translation & technical packs

  • Translate briefs into buildable concepts; produce tech packs (scaled drawings/CAD, visuals/renders, materials/finishes schedules, install sequences, fixings, load-in method) that are suitable for the location of install.
  • Work with the Operations team to design FOH/BOH service-scapes that maximise speed of service and staff efficiency (clear workstations, back-bar logic, stock security, queue management), ensuring the activation is truly bar-ready, not just creative.

Pre-production & supplier management

  • Specify and procure scenic/fabrication, cladding, signage/print, metalwork, lighting accents and bar equipment; order samples and produce mock-ups to finalise finishes and designs before fabrication.
  • Partner with the Warehouse to schedule pre-builds, prefabrication and re-use of assets; document pack lists, protection and load plans.
  • Maintain version-controlled drawings/specs and circulate update logs and actions to stakeholders.

Venue & site integration

  • Lead site surveys and venue liaison to confirm protection plans, access/egress, floor loadings, fixing permissions, delivery windows and noise/working-at-height constraints so this information can be included during product design.
  • Define layouts and services (power/water/waste/data) and integrate EPOS, refrigeration and BOH workflows in collaboration with Ops/Tech/Stock.

Artwork, menus & brand assets

  • Own artwork/spec approval for signage, wayfinding, menus/price boards and compliance labels; manage print specs, proofs and install methods suited to indoor/outdoor and premium venue contexts.

Compliance, safety & licensing interfaces

  • Where relevant, contribute to developing RAMS and install method statements; ensure fire-retardancy certificates, food-safe finishes where relevant, and adherence to venue rules/CDM where applicable.

On-site build support & quality assurance

  • Support Operations colleagues to secure the necessary scenic and install crews for build/de-rig.
  • When necessary, be present during build periods to ensure the scenic and install crews are working within your design and production briefs.

Sustainability & asset stewardship

  • When designing products, prioritise materials and fixings that support re-use/modularity; track sustainability paperwork and waste streams; brief crews on re-use, storage and returns.

Documentation, handover & debrief

  • Deliver complete handover packs (as-built drawings, fixings maps, maintenance notes, certificates) to Ops/Client.
  • Lead post-event reviews on budget, supplier performance, build quality and future improvements; maintain an image library and update templates/specs for roll-forward.

KNOWLEDGE/ EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • 5+ years’ experience working in a relevant event sector, in a creative/operations/production/site management/event management role. Bars/hospitality/festival preferred but not essential.
  • Experience in a client facing role, ideally translating their vision into practical delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of temporary builds: marquees/structures, bar units, FOH/BOH layouts, power, water/drainage, refrigeration, and POS/data integration.
  • Proven budget ownership: supplier scoping and negotiation, POs, cost tracking and reconciliation.
  • Practical understanding of design, materials/finishes and build techniques; confident specifying fixings and venue protection.
  • Solid grasp of health & safety and event compliance (RAMS/CDM basics) and how they shape designs and install methods.
  • People leadership: briefing and leading crews/contractors; clear stakeholder coordination (clients, promoters, venues, authorities).
  • Excellent organisational/project management skills, demonstrating an understanding of how product designs translate into practical builds (e.g. scheduling, load/delivery planning).
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Excel trackers, PowerPoint decks) and scheduling tools; working CAD literacy (AutoCAD/Vectorworks/SketchUp) or fast upskilling.
  • Experience working with Adobe InDesign & 3D Render.
