Production Engineer

Colchester | Up to £42,000 | Permanent

A leading engineering manufacturer in Colchester is looking for a hands-on Production Engineer to join its growing production engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, improving manufacturing processes, solving production issues, and driving continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The Role

The Production Engineer will support production across new and existing products, working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to improve safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day engineering support to production.
  • Investigating and resolving manufacturing and process issues.
  • Improving and standardising manufacturing processes.
  • Leading Lean and Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Reducing waste, downtime, scrap, and rework.
  • Supporting new equipment, tooling, and automation projects.
  • Creating and maintaining manufacturing documentation and work instructions.
  • Working with suppliers during equipment installation and commissioning.

What You'll Need

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience as a Production Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong CAD experience is essential – ideally using Creo or SolidWorks.
  • Experience improving manufacturing processes and supporting production.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
