Production Engineer – Optical & Precision Systems

Looking for a Production Engineer role where you can solve technical problems, influence manufacturing processes and work closely with talented engineers and scientists?
Our client is looking for an experienced Production Engineer to join a highly technical engineering environment, working with sophisticated optical, photonic, electronic and electro-mechanical systems.
This is an opportunity to get hands-on with complex technology while having a genuine influence on how products are built, integrated, tested and ultimately moved successfully into production.

You'll have the opportunity to:
- Master complex system integration, building and testing precision optical, cabling and electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Own technical problem-solving, investigating manufacturing challenges, carrying out root cause analysis and helping implement permanent corrective actions.
- Make manufacturing better, designing safe trials, validating process changes and improving quality, reliability and efficiency.
- Work across complete systems, validating module and system performance and tackling integration challenges.
- Shape how new technology reaches production, partnering with Engineering on product development, NPI and manufacturing transfer.
- Become a technical point of support, sharing your knowledge and helping colleagues develop their capabilities.
- Take ownership of delivery, helping ensure complex assemblies are completed right first time while removing obstacles that could affect production schedules.

About You
You'll get to build on your experience with precision engineering, complex manufacturing and system integration, working with technologies that can include optics, fibre optics, lasers, electronics and electro-mechanical assemblies.
Our client's wishlist includes experience such as:
- Production Engineering experience, or significant experience at Senior Manufacturing Technician level.
- Building, integrating or testing complex, high-value technology products.
- Optical systems, fibre optics, lasers, electronics or electro-mechanical integration.
- Troubleshooting and structured root cause analysis.
- Cleanroom or other controlled manufacturing environments.
- Moving products and processes from development into production.
- Manufacturing quality systems and process controls.
- Reading engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Precision assembly and test.
- Manufacturing engineering and process development.
- Lean, Six Sigma or comparable continuous-improvement approaches.
Experience could have been gained in a range of advanced technology manufacturing environments, so don't rule yourself out because your background doesn't match every point. Even Better If...
- Knowledge of metrology, photonics, scientific instrumentation or other highly precise equipment would be useful, as would experience supporting low-volume, technically complex products.
- IPC wiring or soldering certification would also be advantageous, but these are wishlist items rather than reasons not to apply.
