About the Role

The PED Team Leader will lead an engineering team that manufactures an extensive range of pyrotechnic devices used at Martin-Baker. This will involve people management of the PED team, encompassing coaching, recruitment, engagement and performance management of the team. Pyro production engineering is an important and interesting component of the ejection seat products manufactured, based at the Chalgrove site in Oxfordshire.

The Opportunity

The PED Team Leader will line manage the PED team, providing day-to-day leadership, supervision and production support for this manufacturing unit. You’ll ensure that the team operationally works both safely and accurately, relating to company standards and statutory requirements.

Through managing the PED team, you’ll ensure that compliant, safe and professional working practices are operated, and that team members are engaged, trained and perform within their roles, assigning workload as needed across the team. As a people manager, you’ll lead the PED team relating to their performance, communication, resourcing and outputs, championing employee recognition and driving high standards.

This role will be based onsite working from Chalgrove.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, develop and motivate the PED team, ensuring that workloads, work patterns and skills are aligned to targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure that health and safety responsibilities follow company and statutory guidelines.
  • Manage the PED team relating to work allocation, training, performance management, tooling, packaging and compliance.
  • Production Engineering process management, involving production data, standards and resources. Focus with quality, rework and procedural controls, projects and capital expenditure.
  • Ensure that all quality rejects are fully investigated, with corrective actions implemented to prevent recurrence, production rework activities carefully planned and risk assessed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven team management of over 10 staff within a technical assembly environment.
  • Practical knowledge of health and safety legislation, compliance and standards.
  • Good leadership skills, with proven abilities of leading others and production workloads.
  • Seasoned experience and knowledge of procedures relating to explosives / pyro products.
  • Strong communication skills, able to liaise with others in a constructive way, with internal stakeholders at all levels and customer representatives.
  • Seasoned experience of manufacturing techniques and methodologies.
  • Able to work professionally under pressure and prioritise workloads to agreed deadlines.
  • University education with relevant Engineering degree.
  • Share and demonstrate the Martin-Baker values.
