As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a Production Manager to lead our production operations at our UK offices in Buckingham. This is a broad leadership role covering in-house build, hardware repairs and our UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory. You will be accountable for delivering production output on time and to quality, for the processes, systems and standards behind it, and for the safe and efficient running of the production area.
Responsibilities and Duties
Production Delivery
- Deliver production output on time and to quality across a varied product range, balancing competing priorities as they change.
- Plan and release build orders within the agreed production schedule.
- Plan labour, skills and equipment capacity against demand and forecast, identifying constraints early enough to act on them.
- Make full use of our ERP system for planning, routings, work in progress and traceability, and ensure production data is accurate and current.
Process, Quality and Safety
- Take responsibility for the manufacturing methods used for in-house build, ensuring they are efficient, repeatable and cost-effective.
- Ensure work instructions and manufacturing documentation are accurate, current and under revision control.
- Ensure workmanship, soldering and ESD standards are defined and applied, and that operators are trained and assessed against them.
- Take responsibility for production’s performance within the quality management system, including the disposition of non-conforming work, root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Ensure production test and measurement equipment is available, fit for purpose and within calibration.
- Take responsibility for health and safety within the production area, including risk and COSHH assessments, and promote a visible, proactive safety culture.
- Lead improvement in production output, quality and cost, involving the team in identifying and delivering change.

New Product Introduction
- Agree with Engineering how new products transfer into production, including what production needs in order to build them reliably.
- Contribute the manufacturing and test view at design reviews, so that products are designed to be built efficiently.
- Support pilot and pre-production builds, capturing the information needed to confirm a product is ready for full manufacture.
- Assess the production impact of engineering changes, agree cut-in points, and ensure documentation and the team are updated.
Leadership and Team Development
- Build the leadership structure within production, identifying, recruiting and developing the leaders needed to run each area.
- Lead the production, hardware repairs and calibration teams, setting clear priorities, standards and accountability.
- Hold management responsibility for our accredited calibration laboratory through the Laboratory Manager, supporting the accreditation and its assessments.
- Ensure hardware repairs and customer returns are resourced and turned around to agreed timescales.
- Maintain the production skills matrix and remove single points of failure, so that every critical process has trained, capable cover.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Support the Purchasing and Engineering teams in their relationships with external manufacturing partners, providing the production view on build, quality and capacity.
- Work closely with teams across the business to keep end-to-end delivery running smoothly, and report production performance, risks and improvement activity monthly.

About You
- Experience managing production in an electronics or electro-mechanical manufacturing environment, with a clear track record of delivering output to schedule and to quality.
- Experience building and developing a leadership team, including identifying potential, recruiting, coaching and growing first-line leaders.
- Confident user of ERP or MRP systems for production planning, routings and traceability.
- Good working knowledge of electronics manufacturing standards, including workmanship, soldering and ESD control.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality management system, including root cause analysis and corrective action; exposure to accredited calibration or test environments is desirable.
- Evidence of continuous improvement delivery with measurable results.
- Experience of new product introduction and engineering change in a manufacturing setting.
- Sound understanding of health and safety responsibilities in a production setting, including risk assessment and COSHH.
- A relevant engineering, manufacturing or operations qualification is welcome, although proven experience matters more.
- An ability to listen effectively and adjust communication style and method for various situations as appropriate.
- A flexible approach to work, with a willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
