Manufacturing/ Full time/ Newcastle upon Tyne/ circa £55,000/ + bonus on target achievement.

We are looking for an exceptional Production Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day performance of our manufacturing operation.

This is a hands-on management role for someone who enjoys being close to production, understands how to organise people and machinery effectively, and takes personal responsibility for getting the job finished properly and on time.

Your responsibility

You will have overall responsibility for planning and controlling production, working closely with our Foreman and a team of approximately 15 production employees.

You will be responsible for:

  • Creating and maintaining daily and weekly production plans
  • Allocating labour and machine capacity effectively
  • Ensuring production targets and delivery dates are achieved
  • Monitoring productivity, quality, waste and downtime
  • Identifying and removing production bottlenecks
  • Managing and developing the production team
  • Working closely with purchasing, sales and management
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, quality and health & safety
  • Introducing practical Lean/continuous-improvement initiatives
  • Producing clear production reports and KPIs
  • Taking ownership when production falls behind plan and putting it back on track

The person

We are looking for someone who has genuinely managed a manufacturing operation rather than someone who has simply held a managerial title.

You will need:

  • Proven manufacturing/production management experience
  • Experience managing a team
  • Strong planning and organisational ability
  • Excellent understanding of production flow
  • Ability to prioritise under pressure
  • A practical, hands-on management style
  • Good communication and people-management skills
  • A track record of improving productivity, delivery or quality
