Production Manager

Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence, and key commercial customers.

An exciting opportunity is available for a Production Manager to join our team. The Production Manager will be responsible for leading assigned operational production teams to deliver safe, compliant, high-quality, and efficient manufacturing performance in line with business objectives. The role will have responsibility for Team Leaders, Unit Leaders, Technicians, Operators, and Agency Personnel, as applicable to the assigned area.

We’re looking for an experienced Production Manager who can provide visible leadership across a busy manufacturing environment, developing high-performing teams while ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved. You’ll play an important role in maintaining high standards of compliance, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring teams have the skills, training, and competence required to operate safely and effectively.

Key Accountabilities & Duties:

  • Ensure all activities are carried out in full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security legislation, company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop production teams to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives while maintaining a strong culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure teams have the appropriate skills, training, and competence to safely and effectively operate across assigned production areas.
  • Manage employee performance, attendance, conduct, and development, including succession planning, regular reviews, and personal development plans.
  • Ensure production activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures, risk assessments, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain ownership and control of assigned facilities, equipment, materials, and production processes, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
  • Act as Building Owner where assigned, ensuring planned maintenance activities, inspections, and associated actions are completed.
  • Drive continuous improvement, waste reduction, and productivity initiatives to support operational excellence.
  • Ensure effective control and accountability of materials, work in progress, and finished goods within the assigned area.
  • Provide clear and effective leadership and communication to production teams, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and wider business objectives.
  • Support site emergency response arrangements and undertake designated emergency response responsibilities as required.
  • Deputise for the Manufacturing Manager and support wider operational, business improvement, and organizational change initiatives where required.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Relevant manufacturing leadership experience supported by a degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent technical qualification.
  • Experience managing production or manufacturing teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading teams to deliver safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Strong understanding of Health, Safety, Environmental, and regulatory requirements within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in performance management, employee development, and workforce planning.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience operating within a highly regulated, process-driven environment.
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification would be desirable.
