Production Manager | Ely, Cambridgeshire | Full-time Onsite

We are looking for an ambitious and results-driven Production Manager to lead our Production and Stores teams at our manufacturing facility in Ely. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this is a key leadership role with responsibility for production execution, operational performance, team development, and continuous improvement. You'll play a hands-on role in strengthening manufacturing discipline, improving productivity, and embedding Lean principles across the site.

This role will suit someone who enjoys building structure, solving problems, challenging existing ways of working, and creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll lead a team of approximately 50 employees, including Cell Managers and Team Leaders, while working closely with Planning, Purchasing, Quality, and Engineering to improve operational flow and plant performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead by example in creating a world-class safety culture and ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Production and Stores teams, building capability and accountability at every level.
  • Drive operational performance through effective use of KPIs, reporting, and daily performance management.
  • Improve labor utilization, productivity, and manufacturing cost performance in line with site budgets.
  • Ensure production plans and schedules are delivered efficiently, accurately, and consistently.
  • Use ERP systems and operational data to improve visibility, decision-making, and overall plant performance.
  • Partner with Planning, Purchasing, Quality, and Engineering to identify and remove constraints and improve operational flow.
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies, embedding continuous improvement into day-to-day operations.
  • Identify and develop future manufacturing leaders through coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Promote a culture where ownership, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement are part of everyday operations.

You'll bring:

  • Proven leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing tools and driving manufacturing excellence.
  • A track record of leading operational change and delivering meaningful process improvements.
  • Strong data-driven problem-solving and performance management skills.
  • Strong ERP system experience and confidence using operational reporting tools.
  • Experience working within a KPI-driven manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and people-development capability.

You'll be comfortable on the production floor, in front of a KPI dashboard, and coaching your team to higher standards. You'll bring energy and pace, but also the structure and discipline needed to deliver sustainable improvements. Most importantly, you'll take ownership of results and inspire others to do the same.
