Bedfordshire Growers is a farming cooperative established in 1963, specializing in the growing, grading, and packing of high-quality fresh vegetables and salads from its site in Central Bedfordshire. The cooperative operates from an 18-acre site equipped with extensive cold storage and modern loading bay facilities, supporting efficient and reliable supply operations. Bedfordshire Growers is accredited to leading independent standards, including BRC, Red Tractor, Soil Association, and Smeta, as well as several customer-specific standards. The organization focuses on maintaining high product quality, robust food safety practices, and strong relationships with both growers and customers, offering a stable and professional working environment for team members.
Role Description
The Production Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Sandy, responsible for overseeing daily production operations across our vegetable production lines. This role manages production planning, resource allocation, and workflow scheduling to meet customer requirements while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency targets.

- Leads and supports production teams
- Coordinates with logistics, quality assurance, and maintenance colleagues
- Ensures all processes comply with relevant accreditations and customer standards
- Monitors performance metrics
- Resolves operational issues
- Implements continuous improvement initiatives
- Drives adherence to health and safety procedures
- Reports on production output, costs, and performance trends to senior leadership
- Contributes to strategic decisions that enhance operational capabilities
Qualifications
- Proven experience in production or operations management within food, agriculture, or manufacturing environments, with strong knowledge of grading, packing, and cold-chain processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop diverse teams, including supervising shifts, managing performance, and fostering a positive, safety-focused workplace culture.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, including capacity planning, scheduling, and coordinating resources to meet deadlines and customer service levels.
- Understanding of quality assurance and compliance frameworks, ideally including BRC, Red Tractor, Soil Association, and other relevant industry standards.
- Competence in data analysis, production reporting, and use of systems or software for tracking output, efficiency, and stock movement.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with internal stakeholders such as logistics, technical, and commercial teams.
- Working knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices, with experience implementing safe working procedures in a production environment.
- Relevant qualification in production management, operations, food science, agriculture, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
