Job Description

Yorkshire Precision Engineering Ltd (YPEL) is well established Subcontract precision engineering company based in Keighley.

We manufacture high precision Turned and Milled components for customers in industries including Medical, Oil & Gas, Space, Brewing, Hydraulics and General Engineering.

We're looking for an experienced Production Manager to join our team and lead our manufacturing operations across our 2 production facilities.

The Role

Reporting to the Directors, you will be responsible for the day to day running of Production, ensuring work flows through the business efficiently, on time and working closely with the Quality manager to ensure quality standards are met. You will also work alongside and manage the team leaders of the relevant sections to ensure a smooth workflow, and everything is organised.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and monitor production across both manufacturing sites to achieve customer delivery dates.
  • Lead, motivate and manage the shopfloor team, ensuring everyone understands daily priorities and production targets.
  • Allocate work effectively alongside the Technical Director, ensuring machines and operators are utilised efficiently.
  • Hold regular production meetings and communicate priorities clearly across the business.
  • Monitor production progress throughout the day and resolve scheduling issues before they affect delivery.
  • Organise secondary operations including deburring, bending, and subcontract processes.
  • Liaise with purchasing to ensure raw materials are coming in when required.
  • Work closely with the Quality Manager to maintain high standards.
  • Monitor work in progress, machine utilisation and production performance using our CIMCO machine monitoring systems.
  • Ensure clear communication between production, inspection, stores, office staff and management.
  • Keep customers informed of delivery dates where required and escalate potential issues early.
  • Ensure good housekeeping and safe working practices are maintained throughout the factory.
  • Identify Health & Safety concerns and ensure company procedures are followed.

We're looking for someone who can organise people just as well as production.

You Will Have

  • Previous experience in a Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager or Workshop Manager role within manufacturing.
  • A good understanding of machining and subcontract manufacturing.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Experience managing production schedules and customer priorities.
  • Good communication skills and confidence dealing with customers and suppliers.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles would be advantageous.
  • Good IT skills and experience using ERP/MRP systems.

  • 4-day working week (Monday to Thursday).
  • 40 hours per week – 7:00am to 5:30pm.
  • 264 hours annual holiday.
