About the Company
Our products are sold globally through a network of distributors, and you will find PMC products in the leading recording studios and homes of music artists worldwide. PMC clients include such luminaries as Stevie Wonder, Calvin Harris, Kraftwerk, Elbow and many more. Corporate clients include the BBC, Apple, Google, Capitol Studios LA and Metropolis London to name but a few. In addition, PMC distributes several complimentary audio brands in the UK that are sold via specialist audio retailers.
Purpose of the Role
The Production Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the production function, ensuring that products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards.
This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with responsibility for delivering the agreed production plan, leading and developing the production team, maintaining production capacity and driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
Working closely with the CO-CEO and other departments, the Production Manager will ensure that production priorities are aligned with business requirements and that issues affecting quality, cost, capacity or delivery are identified and resolved promptly.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management
- Manage the day-to-day manufacturing of PMC products in accordance with the agreed production plan.
- Schedule and maintain works orders within the business system in line with the production schedule agreed with the CO-CEO’s.
- Manage workflow and production priorities to achieve agreed daily, weekly and monthly production targets.
- Ensure products are completed on time and meet required quality standards.
- Monitor production capacity and ensure appropriate resources are available to meet business requirements.
- Identify and resolve issues that could affect production or delivery schedules.
- Ensure accurate build times are recorded for products and sub-assemblies.
- Ensure raw materials are used efficiently and waste is minimized.
- Manage and maintain production assets and resources, ensuring they remain fit for purpose.
Team Leadership
- Lead, manage and motivate the production team, supported by Production Team Leaders as appropriate.
- Set clear expectations and ensure individuals understand production priorities and performance requirements.
- Monitor attendance, absence, sickness and holiday cover to maintain appropriate production capacity.
- Support employee wellbeing and promote a positive, productive working environment.
- Review individual and team performance and undertake performance reviews/appraisals as required during the contract period.
- Identify training and development requirements and coordinate or deliver appropriate training.
- Develop flexibility and capability within the production team through appropriate training, mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce manufacturing time and control costs.
- Maintain a structured approach to continuous improvement across production.
- Review and improve manufacturing and assembly processes as business requirements evolve.
- Document and maintain production processes, procedures and working methods.
- Develop greater consistency and efficiency across manufacturing operations.
- Become a key internal point of expertise for product manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Manage specific projects currently underway in production, including but not limited to, shop floor data capture project, automated lifting equipment & test booth refurbishment.
Quality, Health & Safety
- Ensure manufacturing, assembly and testing activities are undertaken safely and correctly.
- Ensure relevant health and safety requirements, procedures and working practices are followed throughout the production department.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within production areas and associated external areas.
- Work closely with relevant colleagues to investigate quality issues and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Monitor assembly-related quality issues and use findings to drive improvements in manufacturing processes.
Planning, Reporting & Communication
- Provide regular updates on production performance, progress, capacity, risks and issues.
- Attend relevant operational and management meetings and report against the production plan.
- Communicate effectively with other departments regarding production schedules, quality matters and issues affecting delivery.
- Manage the production department budget and seek opportunities to maintain or improve cost effectiveness.
- Utilize the company’s ERP/business systems effectively, including integrating production planning and capacity information.
- Contribute to production planning and strategy to support current and anticipated business requirements.
Key Objectives During the 12-Month Contract
During the contract period, the Production Manager will be expected to:
- Maintain reliable delivery against the agreed production plan.
- Improve visibility and control of production capacity, scheduling and workflow.
- Establish and maintain accurate production performance information.
- Identify and implement practical efficiency and cost improvements.
- Strengthen documented production processes and procedures.
- Develop production team capability, flexibility and accountability.
- Reduce avoidable manufacturing and assembly quality issues.
- Ensure production systems and ERP information accurately support planning and decision-making.
- Leave robust and sustainable production processes in place at the end of the contract period.

Key Performance Indicators
Performance will be assessed using appropriate operational measures, including:
- Finished goods output against agreed daily, weekly and monthly production targets.
- Works orders completed against planned completion dates.
- Actual build times against agreed standard/target build times.
- On-time completion and delivery performance.
- Assembly and manufacturing-related quality issues, including customer-reported issues attributable to assembly.
- Production efficiency and reduction in avoidable waste.
- Delivery of agreed continuous-improvement initiatives.
- Production capacity and resource utilisation.
- Accuracy and completeness of production information held within the ERP/business system.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
- Previous production or manufacturing management experience. 3- 5 years
- Strong people-management and team-leadership capability.
- Experience of production planning, scheduling and capacity management.
- A practical understanding of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement.
- Experience of working with ERP, MRP or comparable production-management systems. Experience with SAP B1 would be a strong advantage.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing production priorities.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments.
- A strong understanding of quality, health and safety and good manufacturing practice.
Contract Terms
This position is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis for 12 months.
Additional Information
Having a driving license and access to a car is essential. We are split across sites in Luton, Sandy and Biggleswade. This role will predominantly be based at Luton but travel to our site in Sandy will be required.
This role is based on site full time.
