Job Description
Production Manager – Melsonby
Are you an experienced Production Manager who believes great manufacturing starts with great people?
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Production Manager to lead our production teams across our two manufacturing facilities in Melsonby.
This is a highly visible leadership role. You’ll be regularly out on the shop floor, talking to the team, understanding our products and processes, identifying challenges and working with people to find practical solutions.
We’re looking for an approachable and supportive leader who takes ownership of production performance while creating a positive environment where people feel valued, motivated and able to do their best work.
What you will do
You’ll have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of production across both Melsonby facilities, working closely with Production, Engineering and wider teams to ensure we manufacture safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing strong, visible leadership across both facilities and spending time on the shop floor
- Leading, developing and motivating production teams
- Building strong relationships with employees and understanding their challenges, ideas and concerns
- Developing a strong understanding of our products and manufacturing processes
- Identifying production issues and working with the team to find practical solutions
- Planning production schedules and capacity, ensuring labour, equipment and materials are used effectively
- Monitoring production performance, KPIs, quality and delivery targets
- Ensuring products are manufactured to specification and required quality standards
- Working closely with Engineering to improve processes and support Design for Manufacture
- Investigating quality issues and driving appropriate corrective actions
- Driving continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5S
- Managing production resources to support productivity, delivery and cost control
- Working with internal teams to manage priorities, delivery schedules and overdue orders
- Ensuring Health & Safety standards are maintained and risks are proactively managed
- Supporting recruitment, performance, absence management, training and workforce development
- Coaching and mentoring team members and building future capability within the production function

Qualifications
We’re looking for an experienced Production Manager and strong people leader who is visible, approachable and hands-on.
You’ll ideally have:
- Proven experience in a Production Manager or senior production leadership role
- Experience leading, developing and motivating production teams
- Experience in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment
- An electro-mechanical or engineering-based manufacturing background
- A strong understanding of technical drawings and manufacturing information
- Experience improving production performance and resolving problems using root-cause analysis
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement
- Experience using ERP systems, ideally SAP
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively at all levels
