An established specialist electronics manufacturer is looking for an experienced Production Manager to lead its manufacturing operation and support the continued growth of the business.

This is a full time, site based position with responsibility for the day to day performance of an electronics production facility and a skilled shop floor team of more than 30 employees.

The business provides a complete electronics manufacturing service, covering design for manufacture, rapid prototyping, component sourcing, kitting, SMT and through hole assembly, testing, conformal coating and manufacturing process improvement.

The role

As Production Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring production operates safely, efficiently and in accordance with the required quality and delivery standards.

You will manage production schedules, allocate people and resources, monitor performance and work closely with Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Stores and Sales. You will also lead continuous improvement activity across productivity, efficiency, quality and customer delivery.

This is a hands on production management position for someone who understands electronics manufacturing and enjoys developing people, improving processes and solving operational problems.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operation of the electronics manufacturing facility.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a production team of more than 30 skilled shop floor employees.
  • Plan production and allocate people, equipment and resources effectively.
  • Ensure production targets and customer delivery requirements are achieved.
  • Coordinate SMT and through hole assembly activities to maintain an efficient production workflow.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, delivery and health and safety performance.
  • Establish and manage meaningful production KPIs.
  • Identify production problems and implement practical improvements.
  • Work with Purchasing and Stores to maintain the availability of components and production kits.
  • Liaise with Sales regarding customer requirements, production priorities and delivery schedules.
  • Manage production processes in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Support employee development through training, appraisals and performance management.
  • Assist with inventory control, work in progress and finished goods processes.

What we are looking for

You must have previous experience managing production within an electronics manufacturing or electronic assembly environment.

You should also be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience leading production teams within low or medium volume manufacturing.
  • A strong understanding of electronic components, assembly processes and manufacturing workflows.
  • Evidence of improving production performance through KPI management and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to plan production and manage competing customer and operational priorities.
  • Experience developing employees and managing individual and team performance.
  • Good problem solving, communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems.

Experience of SMT, surface mount technology, through hole assembly, PCB assembly or PCBA manufacturing would be particularly valuable.
