Wood Mill Production Manager

Elevation Recruitment Group are pleased to be supporting one of the UK's largest and best known manufacturers in their search for a Production Manager to control the Wood Mill, based at their purpose built site in Nottinghamshire. This business makes high quality wooden framed products at scale, supplying hundreds of outlets across the UK, and the Wood Mill Production Manager sits right at the centre of that operation, responsible for every frame that goes into production.

This is a business with a fantastic heritage, with hundreds of employees and decades of manufacturing history, which you could become a part of. The business utilise a mix of traditional craftsmanship and modern production methods. It is not a business that is standing still, and this role has been created to bring stronger leadership and structure to the wood mill as it grows.

The role as Wood Mill Production Manager you will:

  • Take full ownership of the wood mill, covering cutting, machining, assembly and frame preparation
  • Hit production targets on volume, quality and delivery, building the plans that get you there
  • Lead the wood mill supervisor and wider team, setting clear expectations and holding people accountable
  • Develop people so the department has strength in depth
  • Work closely with production and design teams to cut down on defects and rework, using data to drive consistency
  • Take responsibility for health and safety across the wood mill
  • Control costs, from timber and material usage to machinery uptime
  • Drive continuous improvement, bringing lean principles into the department and reporting on waste monthly

The person to be considered for this Wood Mill Production Manager role, you will need:

  • Experience managing a wood mill, joinery operation or similar manufacturing environment
  • A track record of genuinely leading a team, not just being part of one
  • A strong grasp of wooden frame construction
  • Strong organisational skills and confidence solving problems on the shop floor
  • Experience managing performance and conduct issues
  • A NEBOSH qualification, or equivalent depth of health and safety knowledge in a manufacturing setting

It would also help if you have a qualification in wood machining, joinery or engineering, or exposure to lean manufacturing and budget management, though none of these are dealbreakers if the core experience is strong.
