Production & Mock Shop Assistant
As a Production & Mock Shop Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting Dobbies' Buying, Merchandising and Customer teams by ensuring the effective management, organisation and presentation of our mock shop environments. Working closely with Buyers, Buying & Merchandising Assistants (BMAs), the Customer team and wider business functions, you will help create inspiring and well-organised spaces that support product reviews, range planning, photography and promotional activities.
This is a varied, hands-on role within a fast-paced retail environment. You will take ownership of the day-to-day operation of the mock shops, including fixture builds, sample management, stock organisation and workspace maintenance. You will also support internal and external events, lifestyle photography shoots and customer-facing projects, ensuring products and displays are prepared, organised and available when required.
The role requires a proactive and practical individual who enjoys working collaboratively with multiple teams, managing competing priorities and maintaining high standards of organisation and presentation. This position would suit someone who is highly organised, physically active and interested in developing experience within retail operations, merchandising support and visual presentation.
Responsibilities
- Managing and maintaining all mock shop environments, ensuring they are organised, safe, well presented and ready for use.
- Supporting fixture builds, display installations and product set-ups for range reviews, presentations and business meetings.
- Working closely with Buyers and Buying & Merchandising Assistants to coordinate stock and sample requirements for mock shop set-ups.
- Receiving, processing, organising and storing incoming merchandise, samples and display materials.
- Maintaining effective stock management processes to ensure products and equipment can be easily located and retrieved when required.
- Supporting the collation, packing, transportation and return of samples for internal reviews, photography projects and external shoots.
- Assisting with product picking, organisation and returns for in-house studio photography and content creation activities.
- Supporting furniture assembly, set building and product preparation for lifestyle photography and marketing projects.
- Assisting with sample sales and other business events alongside Head Office teams.
- Maintaining storage areas, fixtures and equipment to ensure efficient mock shop operations and seamless set-up for Customer and Commercial teams.
- Ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are followed and that workspaces remain clean, organised and compliant at all times.
- Responding to email, telephone and face-to-face enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Supporting external events, promotional activities and store-based projects as required.
- Assisting the Visual Merchandising team with store implementations within the Edinburgh store when required.
- Driving company hire vans to transport samples, fixtures and equipment between mock shops, stores, event locations and photography shoots.
- Building and maintaining positive working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and undertaking additional duties and projects as reasonably requested by the line manager.

Who We Are Looking For
- A highly organised and proactive individual with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A practical and hands-on team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues across a variety of departments.
- Able to build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, stores and internal stakeholders.
- Comfortable handling stock, samples, fixtures and equipment while maintaining high standards of organisation and presentation.
- Committed to maintaining safe working practices and following Health & Safety procedures.
- Able to work independently, take ownership of tasks and use initiative to solve problems.
- Confident using Microsoft Office applications and managing administrative tasks alongside operational responsibilities.
- Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to support external events, photography projects and store implementations when required.
- Comfortable undertaking manual handling activities, including lifting, building displays and moving stock and fixtures.
- Holds a full, clean driving licence and is confident driving hire vans to transport products, samples and equipment.
- Interested in developing knowledge and experience within retail operations, merchandising support, product presentation and visual merchandising.
