Job Description
Water Supply Production Operator
Full time – 37 hours per week
Salary – £29,325 - £34,500 (depending On Experience)
Location – Co, Durham
About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Water Supply team as a Water Supply Process Operator, playing a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality drinking water to our customers every day.
This is a fantastic entry point for someone looking to build a technical career, as full training is provided to support you in developing the specialist knowledge required for the role. We’re looking for someone with strong transferable skills, a proactive mindset, and a willingness to learn and grow within a supportive environment. The role is mobile across eight sites within County Durham to which you will be provided a company vehicle and therefore a highly visible, public facing member of the organisation.
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of the treatment process, using company systems to monitor performance, spot trends, and respond quickly when issues arise. You’ll apply your problem-solving skills to carry out fault-finding and take appropriate action to keep processes running smoothly.
You will also carry out laboratory testing, accurately recording results to support regulatory compliance and inform operational decisions. Working with chemicals and maintaining the accuracy of instruments through validation and calibration will form an important part of your day-to-day responsibilities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
