PRODUCTION PLANNING & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER

THE OPPORTUNITY
EmTech Hatchery Systems is a specialist British engineering and manufacturing business designing, manufacturing and installing advanced incubation and hatchery systems for customers around the world.
As we continue to grow, we are creating a new senior management position for a Production Planning & Procurement Manager to take ownership of the critical link between Sales, Purchasing, Production and Engineering.
This is much more than a purchasing or scheduling role.
Our ambition is to move from a traditional job-shop mentality — managing contracts one at a time — towards a lean, planned and scalable manufacturing operation that understands total demand, optimizes capacity and maximises commonality across our product range.
We are looking for an experienced manufacturing or supply-chain professional who can help us make that transformation happen.
THE ROLE
You will take ownership of production planning, capacity management and materials coordination, ensuring we have a clear and realistic plan to convert customer orders into finished products and shipments.
You will connect:
Sales → Orders → Capacity → Materials → Purchasing → Production → Shipment
Working closely with Sales Administration, Production, Purchasing and Engineering, you will ensure that we know:
- What needs to be built.
- When it needs to be built.
- How many production hours are required.
- What materials are needed.
- Whether we have the capacity to deliver.
- Where the risks and constraints are.
You will identify problems before they become missed shipments, material shortages or production bottlenecks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Planning & Capacity
- Develop and manage an accurate production plan against confirmed orders and shipment requirements.
- Assess production capacity, labour requirements and available resources.
- Monitor work orders, production hours and progress.
- Identify bottlenecks and delivery risks early.
- Establish clear production priorities and recovery plans where required.
- Improve visibility and communication across Sales, Production and Purchasing.

Procurement & Materials
- Translate production requirements into clear purchasing and material requirements.
- Work closely with Purchasing to ensure materials are available when required.
- Identify shortages and long-lead items before they disrupt production.
- Improve supplier performance and purchasing efficiency.
- Reduce unnecessary purchasing and excess inventory.
- Improve component standardisation and purchasing leverage.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- A major part of the role will be improving the efficiency of how EmTech manufactures.
- You will identify opportunities to:
- Improve production flow and labour utilisation.
- Reduce waiting time, rework and disruption.
- Improve production sequencing.
- Standardise repeatable processes.
- Reduce unnecessary variation.
- Improve on-time delivery and manufacturing efficiency.
- You will introduce appropriate Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles and establish meaningful KPIs to demonstrate progress.
Product Commonality & Standardisation
- Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you will identify opportunities to increase commonality across EmTech's product range.
- This will include identifying:
- Common assemblies and components.
- Opportunities to consolidate product variants.
- Opportunities to simplify manufacturing.
- Standardisation opportunities.
- Areas where engineering changes could improve efficiency and reduce cost.
The objective is to move beyond simply building each customer order efficiently and towards designing and manufacturing a more repeatable, scalable product range.
THE PERSON
We are looking for an experienced planning, supply chain, procurement or manufacturing professional from a complex engineered-product or manufacturing environment.
You will ideally have experience with build-to-order or project-based manufacturing where production planning, material availability and customer delivery dates are closely connected.

You will be:
- Highly organised, analytical and commercially aware.
- Experienced in production capacity planning and scheduling.
- Strong in materials planning and procurement.
- Comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems and production data.
- Experienced in Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement.
- Confident challenging existing processes and ways of working.
- Able to influence Production, Purchasing, Engineering and Sales.
- Comfortable operating strategically while remaining hands-on.
- A proactive problem solver who takes ownership.
Experience with engineered products, machinery, capital equipment, automation or mechanical/electrical manufacturing would be particularly valuable.
Poultry or agricultural industry experience is advantageous but not essential.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within the first 12–18 months, you will have:
- Established a reliable production planning process.
- Created clear visibility of capacity against orders and shipment requirements.
- Improved coordination between Sales, Purchasing, Production and Engineering.
- Reduced material shortages and production disruption.
- Improved on-time delivery and production efficiency.
- Established meaningful planning and procurement KPIs.
- Reduced unnecessary inventory and purchasing.
- Identified significant product and component standardisation opportunities.
- Established a programme of continuous improvement.
Most importantly, you will have started the transition from a reactive job-shop operation to a planned, lean and scalable manufacturing machine.
