Production Controller / Scheduler

About the Role

The Production Controller / Scheduler will be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and controlling production activities for a designated production cell. This role ensures:

  • All projects are delivered on time and within budget
  • Quality standards are maintained

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)

Production Scheduling & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain detailed production schedules based on:
    • Master production schedule
    • Resource availability
    • Material requirements
  • Adjust schedules as needed due to:
    • Changes in demand
    • Variation in production capacity
    • Opportunities to optimise load
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure effective allocation of:
    • Labour
    • Materials
  • Monitor production processes to:
    • Address issues promptly
    • Minimise downtime
    • Maintain workflow efficiency

ERP & Data Management

  • Utilise ERP systems (e.g., SAP) to:
    • Track production progress
    • Update schedules
    • Report on key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Analyse production data to identify:
    • Trends
    • Areas for improvement in scheduling and efficiency

Interdepartmental Liaison

  • Act as a bridge between departments including:
    • Engineering
    • Quality Assurance
    • Procurement
  • Ensure alignment on production goals & requirements

Operational Efficiency

  • Run regular production meetings to:
    • Review progress
    • Address challenges
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential bottlenecks
  • Implement corrective actions for:
    • Production delays
    • Resource shortages
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance:
    • Scheduling
    • Efficiency
    • Overall operational performance

Additional Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Operations on absences, holidays, and breakdowns to update future capacity plans.
  • Support Material Planner during absences or leave by:
    • Managing sub-contract processes
    • Converting planned orders and preparing route card document packs, aligning with material delivery dates
    • Highlighting material shortages to procurement and AOT management
    • Expediting closure of NCRs using SAP QM transactions, and escalating process delays (per QMS & NCR swim lanes).

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in production scheduling or control within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in complex project-based manufacturing (highly desirable)
  • A proven track record in:
    • Successfully planning and scheduling production activities
  • Proficiency in:
    • ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
    • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Materials management principles
    • Inventory control
  • Preferred: ASCM (formerly APICS) certification (CPIM or CSCP) or equivalent.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively

Legal & Professional Requirements

  • You must have a valid right to work in the UK
  • You must be able to obtain security clearance to apply for this role.
