But if you want to join a large food manufacturing business while it is investing, strengthening its leadership team and raising expectations across the site, there may not be many better-timed opportunities.
This is a fast-paced operation with genuine peak periods. When volumes increase, you’ll need to keep production moving without allowing standards, communication or team engagement to slip.
You’ll take ownership of the shift, leading the team across safety, quality, service, cost and performance. That will include delivering the production plan, improving OEE and reducing waste and downtime, but this role is about more than managing numbers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The business needs someone who can develop people, create greater accountability and show the team what a strong manufacturing operation looks like. Someone who can challenge when necessary, coach rather than simply instruct and build productive relationships with Engineering, Technical and the wider manufacturing team.
There will be recurring issues to solve, standards to raise and people who need clearer direction and development. You’ll have the backing to make improvements and the opportunity to help shape how the shift operates as further investment comes into the site.
