Hays are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a leading global engineering and manufacturing business for a Production Supervisor to lead operations within a busy Machine Shop environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced manufacturing supervisor looking to join a well-established organisation with a strong focus on continuous improvement, operational excellence, and employee development. The successful candidate will take ownership of day-to-day production activities, lead multi-shift teams, and drive performance across safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
Your new role
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will:
- Lead and motivate production teams across daily operations.
- Manage labour resources, attendance, training, performance, and employee relations.
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
- Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, maintenance, purchasing, and supply chain teams to resolve operational challenges.
- Monitor and improve machine utilisation, productivity, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Develop plans to maximise machining capacity, reduce downtime, and improve throughput.
- Coordinate production schedules and outsourced manufacturing activities.
- Lead daily and weekly production meetings and foster a culture of accountability and engagement.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Production Supervisor, Team Leader, Manufacturing Supervisor, or similar leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong people management skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and hold teams accountable for performance.
- Experience working within machining, heavy engineering, fabrication, or high-volume production environments.
- A sound understanding of health & safety legislation and a commitment to maintaining a safe working culture.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement techniques, and performance measurement.
- Experience managing KPIs relating to safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and cost.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to react effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships across production, engineering, quality, maintenance, and senior management teams.
- Good IT literacy and experience using ERP/MRP systems.
- A proactive, hands-on leadership style with a focus on driving operational excellence and team engagement.

Desirable:
- HNC/HND or degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
- Formal supervisory or leadership training.
- Experience leading continuous improvement projects and implementing lean initiatives.
This role would suit an ambitious manufacturing professional who enjoys developing people, improving processes, and delivering results in a demanding production environment.
