Production Supervisor (Sheet Metal)

About The Job

The Company

Our client, Yamazaki Mazak is a leading global manufacturing company based in Worcester.

This is an excellent opportunity to work for a market leading Machine Tool manufacturer who have been at the forefront of the industry for many years.

Jonathan Lee Workforce Solutions are the preferred supplier to Mazak.

We are currently recruiting for a Supervisor within the Welding area of the Sheet Metal Department.

The Sheet Metal Department Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of the sheet metal fabrication department. The role ensures production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, and delivery schedules are achieved while driving continuous improvement, employee development, and operational efficiency.

Job Description

  • Setting weekly plans and targets to ensure the team meet the required daily output.
  • Report daily on any issues with regards to receiving parts internally and the smooth flow of machines through the Weld department.
  • Liaise with Production Planning, Fabrication, Paint, Assembly, and Quality departments to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Monitoring and control section budgets.
  • Responsibility for the control of risk assessments, staff training plans and SDQCP activities.
  • Maintenance and control quality levels promoting high standards throughout the team, ensuring that we continue to complete machines to the highest quality standards.
  • Ensuring the communication between departments and sections results in an effective supply and smooth flow of machines through to the Powder Line and Modular Assembly area.
  • Ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental rules and procedures are implemented, and information within the Weld department is always up to date and available to the staff.
  • Promote a positive culture amongst staff by engaging them in health and safety improvements and kaizen initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities.
  • Drive 5S activity within your team.
  • Report and update the sections KPI results.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Proven leader, with deliverables in all key areas: SQDCP (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People).
  • Knowledge of Weld application.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a welding or fabrication environment.
  • Strong knowledge of MIG, TIG, welding processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and welding specifications.
  • Experience working to quality and production targets.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.

Desirable Criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Engineering, Fabrication, or Manufacturing.
  • ILM Team Leader/Supervisor qualification.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement training.

  • Overtime is paid at Time 1/3 first 2 hours then Time 1/2 thereafter each day. Saturday is Time 1/2 and Sunday Double Time.
