The Role
A Production Support Engineer provides hands-on technical support to manufacturing operations, resolving day-to-day production issues to maintain safe, efficient and consistent output. The role focuses on investigating process disruptions, implementing corrective actions, improving process stability and working with cross-functional teams to sustain quality, delivery and operational performance.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on engineering support to production teams, resolving day-to-day manufacturing issues to maintain safe, efficient and consistent output.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, technical specifications and manufacturing documentation to support production and inspection activities.
- Support production readiness, process validation and the introduction of new or modified products and processes into manufacturing.
- Create, review and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process plans, control plans and inspection requirements.
- Investigate production disruptions, non-conformances and process deviations, implementing containment, root-cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean methods and production data to reduce recurring issues, defects, waste and process variation.
- Work closely with production, quality, maintenance, design, procurement and supplier teams to resolve technical issues and sustain operational performance.
- Support process audits, quality reviews and compliance activities in line with AS9100, customer and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor production and quality KPIs, identify adverse trends and implement actions to improve yield, process capability, delivery and operational efficiency.

Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), technical specifications and manufacturing requirements.
- Experience supporting manufacturing process validation, production readiness, FAIR, process capability studies, SPC, MSA and Gauge R&R activities.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate production issues using structured problem-solving methods such as Root Cause Analysis, 8D and 5-Why, and to implement effective corrective actions.
- Practical experience supporting precision manufacturing, machining, assembly or inspection operations in a production environment.
- Working knowledge of aerospace quality requirements, including AS9100, non-conformance control, process compliance and quality management systems.
- Hands-on experience providing shop-floor engineering support, responding to production disruptions and working with operators to restore stable output.
- Experience using manufacturing systems and data tools such as MES, Teamcenter, Minitab and Microsoft Excel to analyse issues and monitor production performance.
- Strong analytical, communication and prioritisation skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across production, quality, maintenance, design and supply chain teams.
Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:
- Previous experience supporting aerospace, defence or other safety-critical and highly regulated manufacturing operations.
- Practical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and continuous improvement tools applied to production problem-solving.
- Experience supporting process audits, product audits, quality reviews and manufacturing compliance assessments.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, or an equivalent qualification in continuous improvement or structured problem-solving.
