This will cover systems for Goods In Inspection, MRP, manufacturing, test, inspection, calibration, and despatch. You will have a significant focus on working with the SLT to define a replacement of the existing off-the-shelf MRP system, with a modern, over-arching MRP/ERP system; plan and execute its implementation, specify which custom applications can be transferred into the core of the new MRP system, as well as modernising and improving custom, in-house apps that remain.
Production Systems Engineer Roles and Responsibilities:

- Diagnose faults across production systems, fix and mitigate reoccurrence
- Introduce appropriate automated and unit testing to improve software and production-system reliability.
- Support existing business-critical applications while progressively modernising or replacing legacy solutions
- ERP/MRP & systems modernisation and implementation
- Integration of in-house custom systems with new MRP system
- Design, develop, validate, and maintain production test software and other internal applications, including APIs, database interfaces, and other integrations between ERP/MRP and proprietary systems, taking ownership of projects from requirements through deployment and ongoing support
- Identify legacy applications, databases, and manual processes that can be eliminated, simplified, or automated
- Work within relevant product compliance and regulatory requirements, including awareness of CE marking

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
