Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Contract: Long-term contract opportunity, PAYE
Shift Pattern: Rotating days and nights
Industry: Oil & Gas / Gas Processing / Production Operations
We are looking for an experienced Production Technician to join an established onshore gas processing operation in Barrow-in-Furness.
Working as part of the Shift Production Operations Team, you will support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of high-pressure gas processing plant and utilities. The role will involve a combination of field-based plant operations and control room activities within a 24/7 operational environment.
Proposed Shift Pattern
The proposed rotating shift pattern is:
- Monday & Tuesday – Days
- Wednesday & Thursday – Nights
- 5 days off
- Followed by:
- Wednesday & Thursday – Days
- Friday, Saturday & Sunday – Nights
- 4 days off
- Followed by:
- Friday, Saturday & Sunday – Days
- Monday & Tuesday – Nights
- 5 days off
The rotation then repeats.

You will be responsible for:
- Operating high-pressure gas production and processing plant and associated utilities.
- Monitoring plant performance through control systems and routine plant patrols.
- Acting as an Area Technician / Area Authority within an allocated operational area.
- Supporting Permit to Work activities and preparing plant for planned and reactive maintenance.
- Identifying plant defects, abnormalities and operational issues and progressing work orders.
- Carrying out first-line maintenance and remedial activities where appropriate.
- Monitoring plant performance and identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
- Sampling and analysing process materials, products and effluent.
- Maintaining accurate operational, production and plant performance records.
- Supporting safe plant shutdown, isolation, maintenance and return-to-service activities.
- Reviewing and developing plant operating procedures.
- Supporting emergency response activities and maintaining the required operational competencies.

What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate should have:
- Demonstrable experience within petrochemical, oil & gas, production or process operations.
- Practical experience operating complex process plant.
- A strong understanding of engineering principles and process safety.
- Previous experience within an E&P or comparable hydrocarbon processing environment.
- Experience working within Permit to Work and controlled plant maintenance environments.
- Strong HSE awareness and a thorough understanding of the hazards associated with process plant operations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively within a close-knit rotating shift team.
Qualifications
Ideally, candidates will hold:
- BTEC Ordinary Certificate / ONC or equivalent within an engineering discipline; and/or
- An Engineering Apprenticeship supported by relevant operational experience and qualifications.
- A minimum of approximately 5 years' relevant production operations experience is preferred.
