Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) and Culture Lead
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate midwife to shape the culture, wellbeing and professional development of our maternity workforce. As the Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) and Culture Lead, you will play a pivotal role in creating an environment where midwives feel supported, valued and empowered to deliver exceptional care.
Working across the maternity service, you will champion restorative clinical supervision, promote reflective practice and support colleagues to thrive personally and professionally. You will influence positive cultural change by embedding learning, quality improvement and compassionate leadership into everyday practice, whilst leading initiatives that strengthen inclusion, equity and psychological safety.
The role offers a unique balance of strategic leadership and clinical practice, enabling you to work alongside multidisciplinary colleagues to improve staff experience, patient outcomes and service quality. You will have the opportunity to develop innovative programmes, support organisational priorities, influence maternity culture and lead implementation of the Capital Midwives Anti-Racism Framework.
About the Role
This role is ideal for someone who is an experienced clinician, an inspirational leader and a skilled communicator with a genuine passion for developing others, improving workplace culture and driving meaningful change across maternity services.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional leadership and advocacy for midwives through restorative clinical supervision, coaching and reflective practice, supporting colleagues to build confidence, resilience and professional accountability throughout their careers.
- Facilitate individual and group sessions, contribute to revalidation, support learning following significant events and help staff translate reflection into meaningful quality improvement.
- Working closely with senior midwifery, governance and quality improvement teams, you will identify themes, analyse feedback and data, and help implement initiatives that enhance safety, staff wellbeing and patient experience.
- Lead on the Capital Midwives Anti-Racism Framework and similar equity projects, driving inclusive practice and supporting sustainable cultural change across the maternity service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
