The Role

Professional Negligence Associate – Birmingham / Bristol / Manchester / London – Hybrid – up to £80,000

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Professional Indemnity Associate to join a nationally recognised law firm. The firm is widely regarded for its expertise in defending insurers, brokers, and other insurance sector clients in complex, high-profile professional negligence matters.

In this role, you will manage your own caseload of professional indemnity claims while also supporting Partners on high-value, multi-party disputes. You will work across a variety of sectors, including legal, financial services, property, technology, media, and business consultancy, tackling challenging and novel areas of professional liability and insurance law. This includes issues such as scope of duty, breach, causation, quantum, and complex policy liability disputes.

You’ll work closely with insurer clients and policyholders, handling matters from initial investigation through to resolution. Responsibilities include pre-action strategy, drafting pleadings, disclosure, expert and QC instructions, mediation, arbitrations, adjudications, and litigation before the County Court, High Court, TCC, commercial courts, and consumer redress schemes including the Financial Ombudsman Service. You will also manage reporting to insurer clients in line with exacting service standards, ensuring accurate reserving, clear case planning, and proactive strategy execution.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
