About the Role

Our client is a well-established MSP in Sheffield, and they need a senior engineer who can genuinely do it all: scope the project, build it, deliver it, and then mentor the team that supports it afterwards. If you're currently stuck doing one slice of that (all delivery, no client contact, or all pre-sales, no hands-on work) and you want the full picture, this is worth a proper look.

This isn't a desk-bound escalation seat. You'll sit across three things: pre-sales and solution design, full project delivery, and 4th line escalation for the service desk. One week you might be running a discovery workshop and writing a statement of work, the next you're leading an Azure migration, and the week after that you're the person the service desk calls when a P1 needs someone who's actually seen the problem before.

You'll work directly with clients rather than being kept behind a ticketing system. That means real conversations about what they actually need, not just what they've asked for.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing

  • Running discovery workshops and site audits, then turning what you find into technical designs, proposals, and SOWs
  • Leading end-to-end projects across Microsoft 365 (Intune, Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams), Azure (VMs, virtual networks, backup, ASR, hybrid setups), and networking and security (firewalls, VLANs, routing and switching, VPNs, Defender)
  • Handling on-prem and hybrid infrastructure too: Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, VMware or Hyper-V, and storage
  • Acting as the final technical escalation point for business-critical incidents, doing proper root cause analysis rather than just firefighting
  • Mentoring 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line engineers so the wider team gets stronger, not just you
  • Keeping certifications current and helping protect the company's Microsoft Partner status

What you'll need

  • Solid time in an MSP or IT consultancy environment. This role assumes you already understand how that world works
  • Strong, hands-on experience across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and Azure, including hybrid cloud
  • A proper grounding in Windows Server, Active Directory, Hyper-V or VMware, firewalls, and routing and switching
  • The ability to explain technical decisions to people who aren't technical, including sales teams and clients
  • A genuine interest in staying current with certifications rather than treating them as a box to tick
  • A full UK driving licence, since there's occasional client site travel

Active certifications (Azure Administrator Associate, Enterprise Administrator Expert, Security Administrator, or similar) are a bonus, as is exposure to Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001. Neither is a deal-breaker if the rest of your experience is strong.
