Job Title: Professional Services Manager
Reporting to: Head of Professional Services
Position Type: Permanent, 3 days in the office and 2 days WFH.
The Professional Services Manager plays a key role in supporting the Head of Professional Services in the delivery and development of Qdos' Professional Services offering. The role provides senior-level technical expertise across a broad range of consultancy assignments, with a particular focus on IR35, employment status, employment taxes, and personal tax matters.
The Professional Services Manager is responsible for reviewing and assuring the quality of technical outputs, ensuring advice and deliverables meet the highest professional standards. Acting as the primary point of technical escalation within the team, the role provides guidance on complex client matters and supports the resolution of technical queries.
In addition, the Professional Services Manager mentors and develops Tax Consultants, promoting technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and continuous professional development across the team. The role contributes to the successful delivery of consultancy projects while supporting business growth, client satisfaction, and the maintenance of Qdos' reputation as a trusted tax and employment status specialist.
Key Responsibilities
Consultancy Delivery
- Act as the first point of technical review and escalation for consultancy projects relating to IR35, Off-Payroll Working, employment status, employment taxes, and personal tax matters, ensuring technical accuracy, consistency, and quality of advice provided to clients.
- Provide specialist technical advice and practical solutions to clients on complex tax and employment status matters.
- Supporting the management of the delivery of consultancy assignments, ensuring work is completed to agreed quality standards and timescales.
- Review and approve technical reports, advisory opinions, audit findings, and client recommendations prepared by Tax Consultants.
- Support the Head of Professional Services on significant or high-risk client engagements.
- Assist with the enhancement of consultancy methodologies, processes, and service offerings.

Technical Oversight and Quality Assurance
- Act as the primary technical escalation point for Tax Consultants on complex advisory matters.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and technical quality across consultancy outputs.
- Develop and maintain technical guidance, templates, and best-practice processes.
- Monitor legislative, case law, and HMRC developments relating to employment status, IR35, employment taxes, and personal tax matters.
- Communicate relevant technical developments and practical implications across the Professional Services team.
- Support departmental quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
HMRC Enquiries, Disclosures, and Settlements
- Manage and support HMRC enquiries involving IR35, employment status, employment taxes, and personal tax issues.
- Prepare and review technical representations, correspondence, and submissions to HMRC.
- Support clients through disclosures, compliance interventions, and settlement opportunities.
- Complete technical calculations, liability assessments, and settlement positions.
- Liaise with HMRC, clients, and professional advisers to achieve effective and commercially appropriate outcomes.
Employment Tax and Personal Tax Advisory
- Provide technical advice on employment tax matters, including PAYE, National Insurance Contributions, CIS, and National Minimum Wage compliance.
- Identify and assess tax risks and provide practical recommendations to support client compliance.
- Support employment status audits and workforce compliance reviews.
- Review technical analyses and calculations prepared for consultancy assignments.
- Assist clients in understanding and managing tax compliance obligations and exposures.
Team Development
- Provide day-to-day mentoring, coaching, and technical support to Tax Consultants.
- Deliver internal technical training, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Support performance management and development activities where appropriate.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through the delivery of high-quality technical advice and service.
- Act as a trusted adviser to clients on employment status and tax-related matters.
- Support client retention and growth through excellent service delivery.
- Contribute technical input to proposals, client presentations, and consultancy scoping activities.
- Contribute technical content, guidance materials, webinars, and articles that support client engagement and business development activities.

Essential Skills and Experience Specification
- ATT qualified or qualified through significant relevant professional experience.
- Reasonable exposure to advising on IR35, Off-Payroll Working, and employment status matters.
- Strong knowledge of employment tax and personal tax compliance requirements.
- Experience with HMRC enquiries, disclosures, and settlement discussions.
- Ability to interpret legislation, HMRC guidance, and case law and apply findings in a practical commercial context.
- Strong technical review and quality assurance skills.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or developing technical colleagues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Commercial awareness and client relationship management experience.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities.
Desirable
- ATT, ACCA, or ACA qualification or qualified by experience.
- Experience supporting larger corporate or enterprise clients.
- Knowledge of contingent workforce compliance and workforce risk management.
- Experience delivering client training, webinars, or technical presentations.
- Experience working within a consultancy, legal, or professional services environment.
