McGill Institute for Advanced Materials
Position Summary:
Working under the direction of the two Co-Directors of the McGill Institute for Advanced Materials (MIAM) as well as the MIAM Administrative Officer, the position will perform functions to support the management and organization of new outreach efforts by MIAM to high schools and CEGEPs (both English and French-speaking). This will include creating materials for such efforts; consulting with members of other departments/institutes who operate similar programs; coordinating with other outreach efforts by science and engineering departments and offices; independently contacting high schools and CEGEPs to set up events; and participating in talks and workshops to students.

With the aim of fostering an interest in materials science among high school and CEGEP students, the position will support activities such as workshops and inquiry-based hands-on experiments for high school or CEGEP students, as well as lab tours and demonstrations for students coming to visit McGill. The initial phase of the job will support the design and planning of these activities, with the goal of organizing visits to schools in March or April 2025.
The position may also assist with other MIAM public-facing programs, including a lecture series.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Familiarity with materials science.
- Experience in science education or outreach to high school and CEGEPs a plus.
- Fluency in French required.
Knowledge of French and English:
McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3 (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.
