Role: Programme Test Lead
Rate: £500 p/d Outside IR35 Location: Fully remote Duration: 2 months
We are seeking an experienced Programme Test Lead to oversee testing activities across a complex portfolio of technology initiatives. You will be responsible for defining and delivering programme-level test strategies, managing testing risks, coordinating multiple delivery teams, and ensuring high-quality releases across the software delivery lifecycle. Working closely with technology, product, and business stakeholders, you will play a critical role in ensuring delivery excellence and business confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement the overall testing strategy, standards, and best practices
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of QA Engineers and Test Leads
- Oversee test planning, estimation, execution, and reporting across multiple projects
- Ensure appropriate test coverage through functional, regression, integration, performance, and automation testing
- Drive the adoption and maturity of test automation frameworks and quality engineering practices
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Developers, Architects, and Delivery teams to ensure quality is embedded from the outset
- Identify and manage testing risks, dependencies, and quality-related issues
- Monitor and report on quality metrics, KPIs, and testing effectiveness
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across testing tools, processes, and methodologies
- Manage resource planning, capacity forecasting, and vendor relationships where applicable
- Champion a culture of quality, continuous learning, and innovation

Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Testing Manager, QA Manager, or Test Lead position
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, principles, and best practices
- Experience leading and developing high-performing testing teams
- Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and modern software delivery practices
- Experience with test management and defect tracking tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, TestRail, or similar
- Strong understanding of test automation approaches and frameworks
- Experience working with cloud-based applications and modern technology stacks
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on operational leadership

Desirable Experience
- Experience building or transforming QA functions within growing organizations
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Experience testing web, mobile, API, and cloud-native applications
- ISTQB certification or equivalent testing qualification
- Experience leveraging AI-powered testing tools and quality engineering solutions
