Programme and Engagement Coordinator (Children and Young People)

Children's Health Scotland is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Programme and Engagement Coordinator to help deliver our exciting programmes and activities across Scotland. Every week is different. One day you could be supporting children and young people to develop self-management skills through our award-winning programmes, the next you could be helping deliver a Health Rights Defenders session, planning a family event, supporting volunteers, or building relationships with schools, NHS services and community partners. We're looking for someone who brings energy, positivity and creativity to everything they do, someone who believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive and whose first instinct is to ask: "How can we make this engaging, accessible and fun?"

Location
Children's Health Scotland Headquarters, Stirling. This is a hands-on role combining office-based planning and administration with regular delivery of programmes, workshops, training and events in community, education and healthcare settings across Scotland. Frequent travel is required and occasional overnight stays may be necessary.
Hours
28 hours per week, with the potential to increase to full-time (36 hours per week) subject to funding. This is not a standard Monday to Friday role. The successful candidate must be able to work flexibly across the week, including regular evening and Saturday working, to support the delivery of Children's Health Scotland Self-Management Skills programmes, events, training and Health Rights Defenders activities. Occasional overnight stays may also be required. Time off in lieu may be taken for additional hours worked with the agreement of the line manager. No overtime payments are available.
Annual Leave
45 days per annum, inclusive of 10 public holidays (pro rata).
Accountable To
The post-holder will be line managed by the Chief Executive. Day-to-day operational supervision, support, mentoring and work allocation will be provided by the Officer, Children’s Health Scotland.
Grade and Salary
SCP 21-23 (£31,005 - £32,409 per annum, pro rata). The usual starting salary is SCP 21 (£31,005 pro rata), although consideration may be given to relevant skills, qualifications and experience
Contract
This position is fixed-term until 30 September 2027 and subject to the successful completion of a 3-month probation period. Children’s Health Scotland has a strong track record of securing funding, and it is hoped the post will continue beyond this date, subject to funding availability.

Job Purpose
The Programme and Engagement Coordinator will play a key role in the planning, coordination and delivery of Children's Health Scotland's Self-Management Skills Programmes, training, events and participation activities for children, young people and families across Scotland. Working within a rights-based and trauma-informed framework, the post-holder will create safe, engaging and enjoyable opportunities that support children and young people to build confidence, wellbeing, self-management skills and meaningful connections with others. The role will involve the direct delivery of programmes and activities, including regular evening and weekend work, as well as developing positive relationships with families, volunteers, schools, NHS services and partner organisations. The role involves the coordinating the referrals of children, and supporting their engagement and progression across Children's Health Scotland's services, contributing to monitoring and evaluation activities, assisting with funding reports, and helping to promote the charity's work through case studies, newsletters, social media and other communications. The post-holder will take day-to-day direction from the Officer in relation to the planning, coordination and delivery of services.
The Programme and Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Coordinating, delivering and evaluating programmes, workshops and participation activities for children, young people and families, including referrals, assessment, engagement, preparation, follow-up support and progression into ongoing Children's Health Scotland opportunities.
- Supporting the delivery and development of Health Rights Defenders, Self-Management Skills (SMS) Programmes, SMS:HUB and other funded activities.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with participants, families, volunteers, schools, NHS services and partner organisations.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of events, campaigns and community engagement activities.
- Assisting with monitoring, evaluation, data collection, funding reports and organisational administration.
- Supporting communications and promotion to increase awareness of Children's Health Scotland's services, opportunities and impact.
- Supporting the recruitment, training and involvement of volunteers and young people in programme delivery and participation activities.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role as required by the Chief Executive.
Key Responsibilities
Programmes, Participation and Engagement
Coordinate, deliver and evaluate Children's Health Scotland's programmes, workshops, participation activities and events for children, young people and families across Scotland. This includes supporting recruitment, referrals, participant engagement, pre-programme preparation, programme delivery, follow-up support and progression into other Children's Health Scotland opportunities. Deliver activities using a rights-based, trauma-informed and child-centred approach. Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with safeguarding, health and safety and Children's Health Scotland policies and procedures. Activities should be creative, engaging and enjoyable, encouraging children and young people to participate, develop friendships and build confidence.

Health Rights Defenders, SMS Programmes and SMS:HUB
Coordinate and support the development and delivery of Health Rights Defenders, Self-Management Skills (SMS) Programmes, SMS:HUB, family programmes and other funded activities. Work directly with children and young people to support participation, confidence, wellbeing, self-management skills and understanding of health rights.
Partnerships, Community Engagement and Volunteers
Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, young people, families, volunteers, schools, NHS services, local authorities, community organisations and other partners. Support the recruitment, training and involvement of volunteers and young people in programmes, events and participation activities.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records and databases and support the collection, analysis and reporting of monitoring and evaluation information. Assist with funding reports, case studies, outcome measurement and impact reporting to demonstrate the difference Children's Health Scotland makes to children, young people and families.
Communications and Promotion
Support the promotion of Children's Health Scotland's work through newsletters, website updates, social media, blogs, case studies and other communication channels. Help raise awareness of programmes, events and opportunities for children, young people, families and professionals.
Events and Campaigns
Support the planning and delivery of Children's Health Scotland events, campaigns and engagement activities, including Scottish Children's Health Week, the Children's Health Scotland Conference, Bear's Big Adventure Days and other events as required.
Administration
Undertake administrative duties associated with programme delivery, events, participant engagement, communications and organisational operations. This includes maintaining records, responding to enquiries, preparing resources and supporting effective use of organisational systems and databases.
General
The post-holder will adopt a positive approach to personal and professional development, participating in regular support and supervision meetings and an annual appraisal. They will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of children, young people and families, including regular evening and Saturday working. The role will involve attending and supporting programmes, events, conferences and activities across Scotland, including occasional overnight stays where required. The post-holder will comply with all legal, regulatory, safeguarding and organisational requirements and work in accordance with Children's Health Scotland's policies and procedures.
As this post involves working directly with children and young people, the successful applicant will be required to become a member of the PVG Scheme and undergo the appropriate checks through Disclosure Scotland. Given the nature of programme delivery, the role requires access to a car for business use, flexibility, and will include regular evening and Saturday working.
