Programme Financial Controller

London (Hybrid)

Albany Beck is partnering with a leading global financial services organisation undergoing a major transformation within its Capital Markets business. As investment across a number of strategic initiatives continues to grow, we are seeking a Programme Financial Controller to provide financial leadership, governance, and commercial oversight across a high-profile transformation portfolio.

This is a highly visible role sitting at the centre of programme decision-making, working closely with Programme Directors, Finance teams, senior business stakeholders, and delivery leadership. You will be responsible for ensuring investment is effectively managed, financial performance is closely monitored, and leadership teams have clear visibility of programme spend, forecasts, risks, and funding requirements.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping drive financial discipline across a complex change environment, ensuring robust controls are maintained while supporting strategic decision-making on programme investment and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own financial governance and control across a large-scale transformation portfolio, ensuring robust financial management throughout the programme lifecycle.
  • Develop and manage programme budgets, tracking actual expenditure against approved funding and maintaining clear visibility of programme financial performance.
  • Produce accurate forecasts and financial models, providing insight into future investment requirements, spend trends, and programme funding needs.
  • Deliver detailed variance analysis, identifying financial risks, cost pressures, and opportunities to improve programme performance.
  • Monitor programme burn rates and expenditure, proactively highlighting cost overruns and working with stakeholders to implement corrective actions where required.
  • Act as the financial owner for programme change control, assessing the impact of scope, budget, funding, and investment changes across the programme.
  • Evaluate financial implications of change requests and ensure all changes are appropriately documented, governed, approved, and reflected within programme forecasts and reporting.
  • Maintain programme cost baselines and ensure financial controls remain aligned with governance and audit requirements.
  • Produce executive-level financial reporting, dashboards, and management information for programme sponsors, leadership teams, and steering committees.
  • Track and manage programme commitments, purchase orders, invoices, supplier spend, and accruals, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Reconcile programme expenditure across multiple sources and maintain high levels of financial accuracy and transparency.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Procurement, PMO, and Programme Leadership teams to ensure consistency of financial reporting and governance across the transformation portfolio.
  • Support investment planning, funding approvals, business case tracking, and broader portfolio financial management activities.
  • Provide financial insight and challenge to senior stakeholders, helping drive informed decision-making and ensuring programme investment delivers maximum value.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
