Programme Systems Engineering Manager

The Role

As Systems Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the engineering delivery of one or more complex programmes, providing technical leadership across the full project lifecycle. Working closely with Programme Managers and technical specialists, you will ensure engineering activities are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

This is a leadership role requiring strong systems engineering expertise alongside the ability to manage teams, resources, technical risks and stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering delivery of complex programmes and multiple projects.
  • Support programme planning and scheduling, identifying opportunities to improve delivery.
  • Manage engineering resources and work with discipline leads to ensure projects are appropriately staffed.
  • Deliver engineering outputs to agreed budgets, schedules and quality standards.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate technical risks throughout the programme lifecycle.
  • Manage engineering budgets, forecasts and cost performance.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across systems, software, hardware and integration activities.
  • Represent engineering with customers, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Work collaboratively across production, test, quality and project management teams.
  • Ensure compliance with security requirements and engineering governance.

About You

You'll be an experienced Systems Engineering professional with a strong background leading engineering teams within complex engineering environments such as defence, aerospace or other highly regulated industries.

Essential Skills And Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent industry experience.
  • Significant experience across the full Systems Engineering lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering methodologies, standards and best practice.
  • Experience developing high-quality system requirements and delivering compliant solutions.
  • Experience working within capability or product-line development environments.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO/IEEE/IEC engineering standards and engineering processes.
  • Previous technical leadership and line management of Systems Engineering teams.
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering tools, techniques and emerging technologies.
  • Hands-on experience delivering hardware, software or embedded system solutions.

Desirable

  • INCOSE CSEP or ESEP accreditation.
  • Experience acting as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Knowledge of NCSC security processes and associated security artefacts.
