Programme & Team Administrator
The Northern Mission Enabling Team supports dioceses, churches and leaders in church planting, parish revitalisation and mission development across the North of England. Working with the Archbishop's Mission Enabler for the North, the team delivers the Northern Enabling Strategy as part of the Faith in the North initiative. This strategy has received £3.4 million of funding to deliver its main objectives by 2029:

Create the conditions for new worshipping communities across the province

Work with leaders across the region to offer focused consultancy, provide access to expertise and support peer learning in church planting

Train leaders through Camino, a new resource church leader training programme run in partnership with St Hild College

Support leaders of local new worshipping communities through ‘activation grants’

Help northern resource churches to accelerate their planting plans through additional funding
The successful candidate will join the Northern Mission Enabling Team, a small project team that values being positive, innovative and collaborative. The postholder will support the programme as a whole and facilitate the work of our team of mission enablers, especially those engaged in developing intercultural mission. The postholder will report to the Programme Manager, who will oversee and prioritise their work across the team.
This role is being advertised as 0.6 FTE, but we would be willing to look at flexible options between 0.4 and 0.6 with the successful candidate. This post is offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months initially; we hope to continue the role for a further two years subject to funding being confirmed later this year.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Programme & Team Administrator will work across several workstreams within the Northern Mission Enabling Team. Key responsibilities include:
Programme Management Support
- Coordinating the collection of monitoring, evaluation and learning information (e.g. event feedback, learning circle responses, grant evaluations) to assist the Programme Manager with monitoring, evaluation and decision-making
- Supporting the drawdown of programme finances and processing payments for small grants
- Providing flexible administrative support for additional projects and priorities as required
Support for Mission Enablers
- Working closely with the Executive Assistant to coordinate team administration and support the delivery of strategic priorities
- Providing administrative support to Mission Enablers, assisting with the organisation of prayer meetings, learning community gatherings and residential events
- Managing travel and expense claims for Mission Enablers and other team members in line with organisational procedures
- Assisting with internal and external communications and support for the team's digital communications where relevant

Intercultural Mission
- Supporting the Intercultural Mission Enabler with administrative duties and event organisation
- Working with others in the intercultural mission sub-team to deliver further learning and partnership in this area
- Assisting with reporting and evaluation related to partnership work with the Racial Justice Unit
QUALIFICATIONS
This role would suit a committed administrator who enjoys coordinating multiple activities, building effective working relationships and supporting the delivery of mission-focused programmes and events.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships across a range of contexts.
- An interest in, and sympathy for, the work of the Church of England and its vision to develop new worshipping communities in the North.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines.
- Confidence in organising meetings, events and communications involving multiple stakeholders.
- Good knowledge of IT and experience using the Microsoft Office 365 suite of packages including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
- Ability to handle confidential data sensitively and with discretion.
- Experience of providing high-quality administrative support within a busy and complex environment.
- Confidence in maintaining and collating data and producing accurate information for reporting.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing positively as part of a distributed team.
Desirable:
- Experience of supporting networks, learning communities or partnership projects.
- Experience of working sensitively and effectively across cultures, traditions or contexts.
- Experience of coordinating events, conferences or training programmes.
- Familiarity with financial administration processes such as expense management and budget monitoring.
This role requires a flexible and adaptable approach, with occasional travel to offsite meetings and events. Our team work on a hybrid basis, normally working from Bishopthorpe 1-2 days per week with Tuesday as a regular team day. Working hours and any flexible or hybrid working arrangements can be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate.
