Description:

We are looking for an experienced Progress OpenEdge DBA to support a business-critical application built on Progress/OpenEdge. The resource will be responsible for database administration, production support, failure resolution, performance improvement, backup and recovery, and overall database stability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and support Progress OpenEdge databases across development, test, and production environments.
  • Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database failures, outages, locking issues, crashes, and connectivity problems.
  • Perform database performance tuning, including query, index, transaction, memory, and resource optimization.
  • Manage backups, restores, disaster recovery, and data replication activities.
  • Analyze database logs, alerts, and system metrics to identify root causes.
  • Support Progress/OpenEdge upgrades, patching, migrations, and environment refreshes.
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and development teams to resolve production issues.
  • Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis, and preventive action planning.
  • Automate routine DBA activities using scripting and maintain operational runbooks.
  • Ensure database security, access controls, maintenance, and compliance requirements are followed.
  • Provide on-call and production support as required.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong experience as a Progress OpenEdge DBA in production environments.
  • Hands-on expertise in Progress database architecture, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience handling database failures and high-priority production incidents.
  • Strong knowledge of Progress database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Experience with database locks, transactions, indexes, storage, memory, and resource utilization.
  • Expertise in backup, restore, disaster recovery, and replication processes.
  • Good understanding of Progress ABL and SQL for application and query analysis.
  • Experience working on Linux and/or Windows environments.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools and scripting using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar.
  • Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in an incident, change, and problem management environment.

  • Knowledge of OpenEdge versions, upgrades, and high-availability solutions.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring, ITIL processes, and 24x7 production support.
