Job Opportunity: Pharmacist in Pharmacy Chemotherapy and Technical Services Unit
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated newly qualified pharmacist or pharmacist wishing to join our Pharmacy Chemotherapy and Technical Services Unit at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. The role offers a guaranteed pathway of progression from band 6 to band 7. The post holder provides a specialist clinical pharmacy service to the oncology and clinical haematology specialties, ensuring high-quality and safe preparation and supply of chemotherapy medicines to patients, in line with current commissioning criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides specialist clinical pharmacy service to oncology and clinical haematology specialties.
- Ensures high-quality and safe preparation and supply of chemotherapy medicines to patients.
- Participates in an extensive band 6 to 7 pharmacist progression training programme.
- Supports, trains, and mentors other junior members of staff.
- Assists the Lead Oncology Pharmacist in the day-to-day management of clinical verification of chemotherapy prescriptions.
- Supports the Principal Pharmacist for Technical Services in providing a high-quality, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliant service.
- Supports the development of pharmacists and technicians and ensures team working within the Pharmacy Technical Services Team.
- Acts as Authorising Pharmacist under section 10 exemption.
- Monitors and supervises staff working within the Technical Service Unit.
- Undertakes development opportunities and supports the Clinical Director of Pharmacy in the provision of a high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient, patient-centred clinical pharmacy service.

Working Hours
- Core hours, Monday to Friday.
- Participation in late night, weekend, and bank holiday rota working.
- Possibility of home working once fully trained on all aspects of the role in line with rota requirements.
