Drive the development and improvement of project accounting processes
Helping Northern Powergrid strengthen how project costs, capital investment and financial performance are managed across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our Finance Transformation programme, acting as the subject matter expert for project accounting and working closely with Finance, Programme, Operational and Technology teams to improve the way project financial information is captured, controlled and reported.
You'll help ensure project costs are allocated accurately, forecasts are robust, and financial outcomes are understood, enabling better decision-making across major investment programmes.
You'll be responsible for:
- Acting as the Finance Subject Matter Expert for Project Accounting and capital investment processes.
- Supporting the design and implementation of improved project accounting processes and controls.
- Working with programme and operational stakeholders to ensure project costs are accurately allocated, tracked and reported.
- Managing and improving approaches to project costing, billing, forecasting and financial performance monitoring.
- Supporting the implementation of Oracle Fusion Projects and related finance processes.
- Investigating financial issues, identifying root causes and driving resolutions.
- Collaborating with Finance, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets and Reporting teams to deliver effective end-to-end processes.
- Supporting testing, validation and implementation activities as part of the wider Finance Transformation programme.
- Driving process improvement, simplification and automation opportunities across project accounting activities.
- Ensuring project accounting controls meet governance, regulatory and audit requirements.

About You
We're interested in hearing from people who combine strong project accounting expertise with the ability to influence stakeholders, improve processes and support business change.
You may currently be working as a:
- Project Accountant
- Senior Project Accountant
- Project Finance Accountant
- Capital Accountant
- Project Controls Accountant
- Finance Business Partner
- Senior Finance Business Partner
- Commercial Finance Business Partner
You'll Ideally Have
- A professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
- Significant experience in project accounting, project controls or capital investment environments.
- Experience allocating costs across projects and programmes.
- Strong forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis capabilities.
- Experience managing CAPEX and project expenditure.
- The ability to understand how project spend translates into financial and business outcomes.
- Experience working with programme managers, project managers and operational stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills.
- Experience identifying issues, challenging assumptions and driving solutions.
- A track record of improving finance processes, controls and ways of working.

Desirable
- Experience supporting a finance transformation programme.
- Experience of ERP implementations such as Oracle Fusion.
- Utilities, engineering, construction, infrastructure or other project-based industry experience.
- Experience leading or supporting business change initiatives.
- Knowledge of project lifecycle accounting, capitalisation and asset accounting.
