Project Accountant

Open to Part-Qualified and Qualified Candidates

12-month Fixed-Term Contract (FTC)

Hybrid role with regular travel to Ashby and Billingham sites Flexible base: Work from either site or remotely

About the Role

In this role, you will provide:

  • Clear financial visibility across complex, cross-functional activity
  • Robust cost control and insightful reporting to ensure project spend is managed effectively
  • Risk identification to keep financial performance on track

You’ll work closely with stakeholders across Finance, Operations, and Project teams, supporting governance and decision-making using accurate, timely, and clear financial insights.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Bringing structure and discipline to cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting
  • Improving transparency and financial controls
  • Identifying risks and opportunities while supporting mitigation strategies
  • Driving continuous improvement in financial processes
  • Ensuring high standards of accuracy and accountability

What Will You Be Doing?

  • Own cost tracking and reporting

    • Maintain accurate project cost trackers
    • Ensure alignment with approvals and scope changes
    • Deliver clear, timely reporting
  • Strengthen financial governance

    • Manage approvals and track risks
    • Ensure compliance with accounting standards
  • Identify and manage financial risks

    • Proactively spot overspend and risks
    • Escalate as needed and propose mitigation actions
  • Support stakeholders and decision-making

    • Provide clear financial insight to senior stakeholders
    • Present data via governance forums to guide key decisions
  • Drive financial control

    • Monitor spend, analyse variances, and improve forecasting
    • Strengthen visibility and control over projects and BAU costs

Who Are We Looking For?

We’d love to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Strong financial and analytical capability

  • Advanced Excel skills (including interpretation and presentation of complex data)

  • Attention to detail and a rigorous, structured approach to planning and reporting

  • Stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence when working with senior non-financial teams

  • Proactive and self-starting mindset (ability to own solutions)

  • Project and cost tracking experience, including:

    • Managing and tracking projects
    • Monitoring costs vs. budgets
    • Identifying risks and ensuring delivery on time
  • Relevant qualifications:

    • Degree or equivalent qualification
    • Part-qualified or qualified CIMA/ACCA preferred
