We are looking for a talented Project Assistant – Engineering to join our Engineering Department at Cummins in Darlington, UK.

This is a permanent role – Hybrid working 60% in the office Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm (with flexibility)

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Support Project Managers in coordinating project activities, helping ensure objectives, deliverables, and timelines are achieved successfully.
  • Maintain and update project management tools and records, improving project visibility and supporting informed decision-making.
  • Assist with identifying, tracking, and resolving project risks and issues, helping minimise disruption to project delivery.
  • Monitor project schedules, actions, and key milestones, enabling timely communication of progress to stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support for project plans, design reviews, and team meetings, ensuring effective project governance and follow-up.
  • Support budget tracking, procurement activities, purchase orders, RFQs, RFAs, and capital expenditure processes, contributing to efficient project execution.
  • Develop and maintain project performance metrics, validation reporting, and feature maturity tracking, supporting accurate and timely reporting.
  • Coordinate laboratory, parts, and inventory activities, ensuring materials and resources are available to support project delivery.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to collaborate across engineering and business teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail when tracking project data, risks, and performance metrics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn project management tools and processes quickly.

Education / Experience

  • College, vocational, or higher education qualification in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Previous experience providing administrative, project coordination, or project support within an engineering, manufacturing, or technical environment.
  • Familiarity with project management principles, including schedule tracking, risk management, action tracking, and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience supporting procurement activities, budget tracking, purchase orders, or maintaining project documentation would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data, prepare reports, and work with project performance metrics using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant education, training, and experience will also be considered.
