Project Bridge Engineer

Locations: Cork, Dublin, Galway, Sligo, Kilkenny with potential opportunities across Manchester with flexible UK/Ireland project travel as required

Join a dynamic, multidisciplinary bridges team delivering innovative solutions across a diverse portfolio of transport infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to contribute to the inspection, assessment, rehabilitation and design of bridges and structures that make a lasting impact for clients and communities.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

This role supports the delivery of a wide range of bridge projects across the UK and Ireland. You will contribute to bridge design packages and their successful delivery, working on multiple projects at once in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The work will span all aspects of bridge engineering, including inspections, assessments, rehabilitation of existing structures, and the detailed design of new road, rail and footbridges in a variety of materials. You will work closely with internal and external multidisciplinary teams and support projects for major transport authorities, local authorities and contractors under design and build delivery.

  • Help deliver high-quality bridge projects from concept through to completion.
  • Contribute to innovative and practical engineering solutions on complex infrastructure schemes.
  • Support successful project delivery across a varied portfolio of bridge and structures work.
  • Strengthen client relationships through clear communication and responsive technical input.
  • Play a key role in the production of accurate, compliant and buildable engineering outputs.

Bridge Design Standards and Analysis Software

  • Strong knowledge of structural Eurocodes and UK bridge design standards (DMRB), with experience using structural analysis software for analysis, design and assessment.
  • Midas Civil experience would be beneficial.

Bridges and Structures Design Experience

  • Hands-on experience in the design and assessment of bridges and civil structures, including reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel and steel composite bridges.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks under senior guidance.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Confidently represent the bridge team within multidisciplinary design teams, coordinate with other disciplines, and communicate technical matters clearly in meetings and written correspondence.

Technical Reports and Contract Documents

  • Experience producing high-quality technical documentation, including technical acceptance and approval in principle documents, reports, and contract documentation for transport infrastructure and bridge rehabilitation projects.

Delivery Focus and Teamwork

  • Able to manage multiple projects, respond well to changing priorities, and contribute positively to a collaborative, client-focused team delivering complex infrastructure work.

Essential

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in Bridges & Structures Engineering
  • Working towards Chartered status (CEng, MIEI, MICE, MIStructE or equivalent)

Beneficial

  • Level 9 Masters in Civil / Structural Engineering
  • Experience in the inspection of bridges and structures
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered where appropriate

Working Environment

This role is based in Manchester with hybrid working available. Regular office attendance is expected, with flexibility to balance office, home and project/site-based working as required. Travel across the UK and Ireland may be needed depending on project demands.
