About Aspen Solutions
Aspen Solutions is a Scotland-based IT managed service provider supporting businesses across a range of sectors, with a strong hospitality specialism. We have delivered infrastructure, cloud, security and connectivity services since 1998 through a structured, standards-driven model. We are building out our project capability so that work we currently outsource is designed and delivered in house.
The Role
The Project Consultant is our senior client-facing technical consultant. You sit with the client, understand what the business is trying to do, and turn that into a designed, priced project that we can actually deliver. You then stay close to the work so what lands matches what was sold.
This is a role for someone who has been on the tools and has moved into consultancy without losing the technical depth. You will be credible in front of a business owner and equally credible in a technical design conversation with our engineers. Where a project needs senior technical input, you will roll your sleeves up rather than hand it on.
Our engineers carry out regular technology alignment audits across our managed services client base. You brief and debrief them, and you own what happens to the findings, turning them into proposals and a forward technology view for each client.
There is a defined progression path here. As our Customer Success framework matures you will carry the virtual CIO function for named clients, with a route into a vCIO seat as the client portfolios and quarterly business review cadence come online.
The detailed technical scoping and hands-on delivery sits with our Project Engineers. You own the client conversation, the design, the proposal and the oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Client technical consultancy
- Lead the technical conversation with client stakeholders and decision-makers
- Translate business requirements into a technical direction the client understands and accepts
- Present options, trade-offs and cost confidently to non-technical audiences
- Act as trusted advisor at the point of decision, before work is committed

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Solution design and proposal
- Turn technology alignment findings and client goals into designed solutions
- Produce proposals and statements of work, working with Project Engineers on detailed scope and price
- Provide accurate effort and cost input so work is priced to deliver margin
- Make sure every proposal is deliverable with the resource and skills available
- Track proposals from issue to decision and feed back on why work is won or lost
Project oversight
- Provide senior technical oversight from handover through delivery to closure
- Work hands-on where a project needs senior technical input
- Hold the client narrative through delivery so expectations set at sale are met
- Raise scope, risk and change with Project Management early
Client technology direction
- Build and maintain a forward technology view for assigned clients
- Brief and debrief the engineers carrying out technology alignment audits
- Drive client environments toward Aspen technology standards over time
- Feed recurring client themes back into service development
vCIO function and framework development
- Carry the named vCIO function for your clients as the Customer Success framework matures
- Support the development and planning of our TruMethods based Customer Success framework
- Contribute to the QBR process, client-facing materials and consulting standards as they are built
- Support the sales team with technical credibility on new and existing client opportunities
What We Are Looking For

- Proven experience designing and scoping IT projects for SMB clients, including writing proposals or statements of work
- Broad current knowledge across Microsoft cloud, on-premises infrastructure, virtualisation, networking and security, enough to hold a design conversation and challenge a scope
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to business owners and directors and explain technical options in plain language
- Commercial judgement, including an understanding of how scope, effort and price connect to margin
- Comfortable being hands-on where a project needs it, rather than purely advisory
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites
