Job Description

We are seeking a Project Controller who will be responsible for the accurate setup, maintenance, and integrity of all project data within Oracle, acting as the functional owner of the system for an assigned portfolio of transportation infrastructure projects. The role provides financial control, performance reporting, and data governance to support effective project delivery and business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Oracle & Data Management

  • Own the project structure, work breakdown structure (WBS), task creation, budgets, PO’s and resource assignments
  • Maintain data integrity across all Oracle project records, ensuring information is accurate, current, and compliant with business rules and coding structures
  • Manage project amendments within Oracle, coordinating with finance and project teams to ensure timely and accurate completion
  • Act as the first point of contact for Oracle-related queries from Project Managers, resolving data issues and escalating system problems to the Oracle support team
  • Develop and maintain Oracle reporting templates and dashboards to support monthly project reviews and KPI monitoring
  • Ensure all project transactions (purchase orders, invoices, time bookings, subcontractor costs) are correctly coded and posted in Oracle

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Support Project Managers in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control, challenging assumptions and validating inputs entered into Oracle
  • Ensure inter-company agreements are in place
  • Prepare monthly cost and revenue reports from Oracle data, identifying variances, trends, and risks for review by senior management
  • Monitor and control committed costs, accruals, and work-in-progress positions, ensuring Oracle reflects an accurate financial position at all times
  • Manage billing milestones and invoicing schedules within Oracle, ensuring timely revenue recognition in line with contract terms
  • Track and report on project contingency, forecast to complete, and gross margin evolution
  • Control project overdues and unbilled positions, producing regular aged debt analysis

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure all project data is maintained in accordance with internal finance policies, project accounting standards, and audit requirements
  • Support internal and external audits by producing accurate data extracts and reconciliations from Oracle
  • Enforce adherence to the project lifecycle process, ensuring mandatory Oracle gates (budget approval, WBS sign-off, closure confirmation) are completed on time
  • Maintain a clear audit trail for all project amendments, budget transfers, and forecast changes within the system

Key Interfaces

  • Project Managers — daily collaboration on cost, forecast, and Oracle data accuracy
  • Finance team — monthly reporting and period-end close
  • Procurement and supply chain — purchase order management and goods receipt
  • IT/Oracle support team — system issues, upgrades, and data governance
  • External auditors and clients — as required

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Project Controller or Project Accountant, ideally within transportation, infrastructure, or engineering consultancy
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle Projects or a comparable ERP system (SAP, Maximo, Agresso) in a data ownership/management capacity
  • Understanding of project accounting principles including revenue recognition, and cost control
  • Proficient in Excel for data analysis and reconciliation alongside ERP reporting tools
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to data governance
  • Effective communicator able to translate financial and system data into clear management information for non-finance stakeholders
