The Opportunity

The energy sector is evolving at pace, driven by increasing energy demand, ambitious decarbonisation targets, regulatory change and advances in technology. As the UK accelerates its energy transition, we are expanding our industry-leading Energy team and are looking for a talented Project Controls Professional experienced with P6 to help shape and deliver some of the country's most significant energy infrastructure projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects and technical disciplines, supporting clients nationwide on schemes including HVDC and interconnector developments, offshore and onshore wind projects, substations, overhead lines, geotechnical solutions, protection and control systems, LVAC, FEED studies, refurbishment programmes, connection schemes and major new-build infrastructure.

Joining Stantec means becoming part of a collaborative and growing team that is delivering innovative, sustainable solutions to some of the industry's biggest challenges. With ambitious growth plans and a strong project pipeline, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the UK's net zero ambitions while developing your own career.

About The Role

As a P6 Planner, you will play a key role in the successful planning and delivery of transmission and distribution projects across all stages of the project lifecycle, from early development and design through to construction and delivery.

Working closely with project managers, design teams, contractors and clients, you will develop and maintain detailed project programmes, integrate subcontractor schedules, manage programme updates and changes, and provide critical planning insight to support project decision-making. You will monitor progress against agreed baselines, identify risks and delays, and ensure accurate reporting of programme performance.

You will also evaluate contractor programme submissions, review compensation events and impacted programmes, and develop mitigation and recovery strategies to help projects remain on track and achieve successful outcomes.

Your Impact

Your expertise in programme planning will be vital in helping energy infrastructure projects move efficiently from concept to completion. By managing complex schedules, identifying critical path activities and supporting effective change management, you will enable project teams to make informed decisions and deliver essential infrastructure safely, sustainably and efficiently.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
