Staffline Recruitment Ireland is recruiting on behalf of Total Engineering & Design Ltd for an experienced Project Design Engineer - Electrical to join its growing engineering team in Derry / Londonderry.
Total Engineering & Design Ltd is a specialist engineering design and drafting consultancy delivering multidisciplinary engineering solutions across mechanical, piping, HVAC, electrical, instrumentation and control.
Working across sectors including chemical, process, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor and advanced manufacturing, the successful candidate will contribute to a variety of industrial projects from initial concept through to construction.
The Role
As Project Design Engineer - Electrical, you will develop and coordinate electrical engineering design packages while working closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
You will translate engineering concepts and client requirements into practical, compliant and deliverable electrical design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and interpret technical information from client documentation, meetings and site surveys.
- Develop and coordinate electrical design packages for procurement and construction.
- Prepare engineering documentation, equipment specifications, instrument specifications and other technical deliverables.
- Support project planning, scheduling, resource monitoring and project delivery.
- Develop and review electrical single-line diagrams and schematic drawings.
- Contribute to Process & Instrumentation drawings where required.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant legislation, industry standards and client requirements.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support continuous improvement and professional development initiatives.

Essential Criteria
Applicants should have:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years' experience within an electrical engineering design, consultancy or project environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and industrial electrical systems.
- Experience or knowledge of:
- Power distribution systems, including switchboards, transformers and MCCs.
- Motor control principles including DOL, VSDs and soft starters.
- Plant control philosophies including DCS, PLC and BMS.
- Electrical cable sizing calculations.
- Electrical schematic design.
- Industrial instrumentation.
- Competence using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
- Full UK/ROI driving licence.
- Right to work in the UK and Ireland.

Desirable Criteria
It would be advantageous to have:
- 5+ years' experience within an electrical engineering design, consultancy or project environment.
- Experience within process, manufacturing, facilities or industrial environments.
- Previous client-facing experience.
- Knowledge of CAD design and drafting.
- Site surveying and assessment experience.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
- Knowledge of electrical installations within hazardous or zoned areas.
- Knowledge of BS 7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
