About The Role

At Whitworths, we’re investing in growth, innovation, and the future of food manufacturing. As our business expands, we’re looking for a Project Design Engineer to support the delivery of engineering and infrastructure projects across our site.
This is more than a design role. It’s an opportunity to work on varied, visible projects within a business that is actively investing in growth and engineering capability.
You’ll be encouraged to bring ideas forward, work collaboratively across teams, and develop your expertise in an environment where engineering plays a critical role in business success.
What You’ll Be Doing
From concept design through to installation and commissioning, you’ll play a key role in delivering projects that improve efficiency, increase capacity, and support future growth.
- Design mechanical and electrical layouts for plant and equipment
- Support production line, infrastructure, and electrical system upgrades
- Manage projects from concept through to commissioning
- Develop timelines, budgets, and investment proposals
- Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and installation activities
- Maintain high Health & Safety standards across projects
- Provide project updates and maintain accurate documentation
- Contribute ideas to improve reliability and performance

- Advanced production line installations

What You’ll Bring
- Experience designing mechanical and electrical systems within manufacturing environments
- Proven experience delivering capital projects from concept to completion
- Knowledge of Health & Safety within FMCG/manufacturing
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Project
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Financial awareness and budget management experience
Bonus if You Have
- Food manufacturing experience
- A continuous improvement mindset
