Project Director - Major Project
South Yorkshire
Full-Time | Permanent
We are looking for a Project Director to lead a major, technically complex project in South Yorkshire on behalf of a growing global consultancy.
This is a senior delivery role for someone who has already led projects valued at £200m or more and understands what it takes to bring together design, construction, programme and commercial teams on a demanding scheme. You will be a central figure in how the project is led, how decisions are made and how delivery challenges are resolved.
The business is growing and has a real appetite to bring in people with different delivery perspectives. You may currently work for another consultancy, but we are particularly interested in Project Directors and senior project leaders from Tier 1 main contractors. The ability to lead a major project matters more than having followed a traditional consultancy career path.
The role
You will provide senior leadership across the project, working with the client, delivery partners and a multidisciplinary team to keep the programme moving and maintain a clear view of its risks, priorities and decisions.

Your responsibilities are likely to include:
- Leading the project team and setting a clear approach to delivery, accountability and reporting.
- Working closely with design, engineering, construction and commercial leads to resolve issues that affect programme, cost or quality.
- Providing confident advice to senior stakeholders, including where difficult decisions or changes of direction are needed.
- Overseeing project controls, risk management, change and governance at a level appropriate to a major capital programme.
- Maintaining strong relationships across the client and delivery teams while holding people to account for agreed outcomes.
- Identifying problems early and bringing practical solutions informed by experience of delivering complex projects.
We are interested in people who have worked on technically demanding facilities and programmes. Relevant experience might include aerospace or defence production facilities, automotive or battery manufacturing plants, semiconductor facilities, pharmaceutical or process plants, nuclear or power generation projects, and hyperscale data centres.
What we are looking for
You will have substantial experience leading major projects with a value of £200m+, including direct responsibility for delivery rather than oversight from a distance. You should be comfortable with complex engineering interfaces, large project teams and the commercial and programme pressures that come with work of this scale.

We would ideally like someone who is MCIOB or holds another relevant chartered qualification. Your track record in leading comparable projects, the judgement you bring to difficult situations and your ability to earn the confidence of senior stakeholders will carry the most weight.
A contractor background would be very welcome. We have already placed 2 people from Tier 1 main contractors into this consultancy, both of whom have made a successful move. We are equally open to someone from a competing consultancy who wants to take ownership of a significant project within a growing business.
