Project Director

Major Power & Utilities Infrastructure Programme

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Director to join a specialist infrastructure consultancy supporting the delivery of a nationally significant power and utilities programme.

Working within an integrated client and contractor environment, the successful candidate will be embedded within the leadership team of a major engineering and construction programme and take responsibility for tactical delivery, programme execution and operational leadership across a large, complex infrastructure portfolio.

This is a senior leadership role requiring an individual capable of leading large multidisciplinary teams, managing complex stakeholder environments and driving successful project outcomes across safety, programme, quality and commercial performance.

The successful candidate will provide leadership to multiple Construction Directors and senior project teams while supporting the delivery of critical infrastructure that will underpin long-term energy and utility network investment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the safe and successful delivery of a major infrastructure programme.
  • Provide leadership, direction and support to multiple Construction Directors and senior delivery teams.
  • Establish and maintain a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration and delivery excellence.
  • Drive alignment across engineering, construction, commercial and project controls functions.
  • Champion effective communication and decision-making across the programme.

Programme Management

  • Maintain overall accountability for programme delivery and execution.
  • Oversee multiple construction, engineering and infrastructure workstreams.
  • Ensure programme milestones, delivery targets and key objectives are achieved.
  • Drive performance across safety, programme, commercial, quality and risk metrics.
  • Lead resolution of complex delivery challenges and operational issues.
  • Monitor programme progress and implement corrective actions where required.

Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, project partners, contractors and supply chain organisations.
  • Act as a senior representative across project and programme interfaces.
  • Support executive reporting, governance activities and programme reviews.
  • Provide leadership across multidisciplinary stakeholder environments.

Commercial & Operational Performance

  • Support programme commercial strategy and performance objectives.
  • Ensure effective management of risk, change, cost and contractual obligations.
  • Work closely with project controls, commercial and delivery teams to achieve programme goals.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Support successful delivery against programme budgets and forecasts.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

  • Promote a positive and proactive safety culture across all project activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Lead by example in the delivery of best-practice project standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement across all operational activities.

Candidate Profile

We are interested in speaking with senior infrastructure professionals who have successfully delivered major engineering and construction programmes within one or more of the following sectors:

  • Transmission & Distribution
  • Energy Infrastructure
  • Civil Infrastructure
  • Transport Infrastructure
  • Major Capital Projects

Candidates are likely to have held positions such as:

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrable experience leading large-scale infrastructure projects or programmes valued in the hundreds of millions.
  • Proven leadership of large multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience managing multiple construction packages and delivery functions simultaneously.
  • Strong stakeholder management and client-facing capability.
  • Sound commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Experience operating within complex programme delivery environments.
  • Ability to lead high-performing teams through challenging delivery environments.

Desirable Experience

  • Transmission and distribution infrastructure.
  • Energy or utilities sector experience.
  • Overhead line, substation or network infrastructure projects.
  • Major linear infrastructure programmes.
  • NEC forms of contract.
  • Framework, alliance or joint venture delivery models.
  • Experience working on nationally significant infrastructure programmes.
