Project Director – Overhead Lines (OHL)
Location: Glasgow / Central Belt, Scotland (Hybrid: 3 days site/office, 2 days home)
Salary: £120,000 - £125,000 + Car/Allowance + Bonus + Package + Lodgings (if required)
The Opportunity
A Tier 1 contractor is hiring a Project Director to lead major Overhead Line (OHL) grid reinforcement and new-build schemes across Scotland. These critical infrastructure projects support the UK’s Net Zero strategy under long-term frameworks with key transmission clients. You will hold ultimate accountability for schemes from early development through to construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Act as the No.1 lead for £100m+ OHL projects, driving performance from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Commercial & Programme Management: Oversee NEC contract delivery, managing risk, change, cost control, and overall programme timelines.
- Team & Interface Management: Lead large multi-disciplinary teams across engineering, commercial, and operations while managing complex interfaces with substations, cables, and environmental packages.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Manage senior relationships with clients, consultants, specialist subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
- Compliance: Ensure absolute adherence to CDM, HSEQ, and transmission network standards.

Required Experience
- Sector Expertise: Proven track record delivering major transmission infrastructure (£100m+ OHL schemes preferred) within a Tier 1 contractor or major infrastructure environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong operational understanding of high-voltage OHL construction. Candidates with extensive Substation and Underground Cable backgrounds will also be considered.
- Commercial Acumen: Robust experience with NEC3 / NEC4 contracts, risk management, and full-lifecycle delivery.
- Leadership: Exceptional ability to lead large teams and manage complex client and stakeholder relationships.
