DC Director – Data Centre ICT, Relocations & Cabling
Location: Slough
Salary: £90,000–£100,000 per annum
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead the delivery and continued development of data centre ICT infrastructure, technical relocations and structured cabling services. Based in Slough, this senior leadership position will take overall responsibility for technical standards, project delivery, operational performance and the development of engineering teams. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, project managers, commercial teams and delivery partners to ensure complex data centre projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
The role requires a strong background in live data centre environments, including ICT infrastructure deployment, equipment migrations, structured cabling, fibre networks, rack and stack, testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical and operational leadership across ICT, data centre relocations and structured cabling projects.
- Oversee the planning and delivery of complex data centre migrations, technology refreshes and infrastructure deployments.
- Lead projects involving rack and stack, server and network equipment installations, copper and fibre cabling, patching, containment and cabinet builds.
- Develop detailed migration strategies, implementation plans, methods of procedure, rollback plans and risk assessments.
- Ensure work within live data centre environments is carefully controlled to protect service availability and minimise operational risk.
- Establish and maintain technical standards, delivery procedures and quality assurance processes.
- Review technical designs, scopes of work, tender documents, drawings and customer specifications.
- Provide technical input during bids, client presentations and pre-construction discussions.
- Support the preparation of project budgets, resource plans, programmes and commercial proposals.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with agreed service levels.
- Lead, mentor and develop project managers, technical managers, supervisors and engineering teams.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment, training and succession planning.
- Manage relationships with key customers, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and technology partners.
- Monitor project performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, industry standards and client procedures.
- Investigate technical or operational issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Support the wider leadership team with business strategy, service development and growth opportunities.

Required Experience
- Extensive senior-level experience within data centre ICT infrastructure, structured cabling or technology relocation services.
- Proven experience delivering complex projects within live, mission-critical data centre environments.
- Strong knowledge of copper and fibre cabling systems, including Cat6, Cat6A, single-mode and multimode fibre.
- Experience with rack and stack, network equipment installation, server deployment, patching and equipment migrations.
- Strong understanding of fibre testing, copper certification, labelling, documentation and quality control.
- Experience planning and managing data centre relocations with minimal service disruption.
- Previous responsibility for multiple projects, operational teams and significant project budgets.
- Demonstrable experience managing project managers, supervisors, engineers and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of project risk, change control, resource planning and commercial management.
- Experience supporting tenders, estimating, technical proposals and client presentations.
- Excellent client-facing, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop teams and establish accountability.
- Willingness to travel to client and project locations when required.

Desirable Qualifications
- Degree, HNC or HND in engineering, telecommunications, ICT or a related discipline.
- Relevant structured cabling or fibre-optic qualifications.
- PRINCE2, PMP, APM or an equivalent project-management qualification.
- CDCDP, CDCMP, CDCTP or another recognised data centre qualification.
- SMSTS, IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
- Familiarity with standards including TIA-942, ISO/IEC 11801 and BS EN 50173.
- Experience delivering projects for hyperscale, colocation, financial-services or enterprise data centre clients.

- £90,000–£100,000 annual salary, depending on experience.
